We have returned after our week on Jersey.
Thank you all for the advice given prior to our trip.
We had a fabulous time and will hopefully return.
Our first hotel the Atlantic was superb, there are many coastal walks you can do from the hotel, we did a circular walk to the Corbière lighthouse and tower.
We saw Peregrine Falcons and Marsh Harriers.
After an afternoon shopping in St Helier which is very chic, lots of independent stores and two very smart department stores we went to a “farm to fork” dinner.
All local food and French wine served at a long table in a poly tunnel amongst all the seedlings.
We were the only tourists, the locals (Jersey Beans) made us so welcome.
Outstanding food and company.
Friday we went to stay with our friends now living on Jersey.
Another gastro experience, this time a pop up restaurant inside a cider brewery, all the food was cooked on a wood fire.
We had walked a few miles there and back along beautiful tracks and lanes, it was a magical experience and worth the hike.
Saturday we took part in the Liberation Day celebrations, this was moving and very memorable.
Afterwards we had a guided tour of the war tunnels.
Sunday a day at the races, a great fun day.
Monday took us to our hotel at Rozel on the North of Jersey, not the best hotel but well placed for some serious hiking.
We did a coastal path walk with some of the most stunning views of Jersey and across to the Cherbourg Peninsula.
The left yesterday having felt we did the Island justice, we only used half a tank of petrol in our hire car, you see so much more on foot!
To sum up I would say there is easily enough to occupy you for a week on the Island there is no need to take ferries over to France, Guernsey etc.
Nothing is cheap on Jersey but the food is exceptional.
If you are using a hire car I would recommend an automatic, much better for all the little lanes, you will use reverse gear a lot!
Make sure you have a parking disc in your hire vehicle.
It can take a long time to get from A-B so factor this in.
The weather can change very dramatically and the wind off the North coast can be fierce so layers and a waterproofs.
The airport is tiny and facilities are not great but there is a Waitrose and M&S 5 minutes away so we bought stuff to eat there.
I have posted a photo of our farm to fork supper as it was such a special evening and so unusual!
