Downtown Abbey is back, Sunday evening is complete again.
Anyone else pleased to see this series back?

yogagran Wed 09-Nov-11 12:16:39

We didn't find out what happened to Patrick......

GoldengranWonderfully put! I agree with all you say! Totally unbelievable twaddle BUT I love it too!grin

Who died then? I haven't watched the series at all; just happy catching up with it all on here.

GoldenGran Mon 07-Nov-11 10:31:12

OGM I agree, very cringemaking at times, a flabby Bates after making love to his wife being one, but I just loved every ridiculous minute and can't wait for more. I loved the make up on grieving Mathew at the grave, they had gone to town on making a white face with bluish circles under the eyes, very Halloween! Very glad Cora survives, don't like the Lord and maid bit, out of character I thought. I expect they'll drag the Mathew Mary will they won't they, scenes on for another series. Don't expect Bates be hung for murder of his awful wife, but they will squeeze the most out of that situation. I' m a fan bring it on!grin

Dear God they are making a third series!!!!

Oldgreymare Sun 06-Nov-11 23:28:08

glammanana...Cringe-making bits in Downton ( in partic the Lord and the maid!) blush

glammanana Sun 06-Nov-11 23:15:10

OGM why you hiding behind a cushion ? thanks

Oldgreymare Sun 06-Nov-11 23:11:23

Although I'm afraid I had to watch some bits from behind a cushion, I wouldn't have missed it for the world!blush

glammanana Sun 06-Nov-11 22:57:04

There you go I was wrong again, better luck next series.

gracesmum Sun 06-Nov-11 22:35:37

So that is the cliffhanger!!

gracesmum Sun 06-Nov-11 22:33:25

So "this is the end" and Matthew's eyes have gone all manic - silly Lavinia, going and spoiling everything! Has Thomas nicked the silver I wonder?

Hattie64 Sun 06-Nov-11 19:34:00

I know I criticise it and make fun of the programme, and it is 'tosh' but I still tape it and watch it though!!! It is perfect Sunday evening viewing. So if the scarred true heir is the pucker thing, it is immaterial then if Mathew gets everything working again and beget little heirs. I think after watching Julien Fellowes on the One Show, that this so called lurve affair of Mary and Mathew is still ongoing. I expect her rotter of a fiance will do 'beastly' things in retaliation. It will be Mary's sister who marries the poor devil whose face we can't see yet. He does have a lovely voice though, and his body looks OK.

Jacey Sun 06-Nov-11 19:11:50

Priceless gracesmum grin

gracesmum Sun 06-Nov-11 15:34:59

If it is Cora, Lord G could marry Lavinia and free up Matthew to marry Mary. Result!
Sybil goes to fight for the IRA with the chauffeur, Carson marries the housekeeper,Bates turns out to be gay and goes off with Thomas and Edith marries the scarred (true) heir and all live happily ever after.

I'm thinking it could be Cora who die's from Spanish flu leaving the door open for the affair with housemaid to maybe produce a new heir to the Grantham estate, but as usual I am probably wrong.

Jacey Sat 05-Nov-11 17:22:25

Sorry GoldenGran ...may have misled you ...had another look at the pro-mo

www.itv.com/downtonabbey/episodes/episode-eight

...and he isn't there!

But they do only show the servants confused

mrshat Sat 05-Nov-11 17:13:57

I guess it's Cora - that will leave the way open for the lord of the manor to have a whirl with the new maid, or goodness me, even a new character!
It is in tomorrow's episode that the Spanish 'flu' hits Downton Abbey, I think. Then the new series starts with the aftermath of the tragedy. I think I've got that right, but who knows! confused. Let it all be a surprise grin

GoldenGran Sat 05-Nov-11 17:02:11

No that would be too easy for Mary. Ok if Carson was by the graveside it has to be Cora. Am looking forward to it.

Jacey Sat 05-Nov-11 13:05:39

Think GoldenGran saw him standing by the graveside in the clip on their web-site ...I reckon it'll be Cora ...don't think JF will be so predictable as to free up Matthew ...hope not confused

GoldenGran Fri 04-Nov-11 19:03:27

I think it will be Carson. I love it every corny unbelievable bit of it!grin

Yummygran Fri 04-Nov-11 16:22:42

I love Downton Abbey and watch avidly....well I thought I did, I don't remember the Spanish Flu bit last week! Did I fall asleep?!

Jacey Fri 04-Nov-11 15:51:19

This is the news item I was on about earlier ...

"But in last week's episode we saw that Cora, the Countess of Grantham, Lavinia Swire, Matthew's fiancee, and Carson the butler all fall ill with the deadly flu, so will it be one of them kicking the bucket?

The next series of the show will be set over 18 months between 1920 and 1921 and will, once again, follow the lives of the wealthy inhabitants of Downton and their workforce.

Julian Fellowes, ‘Downton’s’ creator, said he was "extremely grateful” that ITV have decided to make a third series.

In recent weeks critics have panned the second series for its over-the-top storylines and fast pace but no doubt people will be happy to see ‘Downton’ return next year."

So did anyone else sleep through this last Sunday? or should they have said "last episode of the current series"??

So ...who do you think will die in this weekend's series finale?

gangy5 Fri 04-Nov-11 12:49:12

No you're not the only one MrsJamJam and the majority would agree. There are only a few critics who don't appreciate good tosh when they see it and also don't want to admit to watching it!!

Jacey Fri 04-Nov-11 12:47:27

No Mrs.JamJam ...it seems there are about 10 million of us grin

MrsJamJam Fri 04-Nov-11 12:33:51

I can't be the only one who just loves a bit of utter tosh on a Sunday night to round off the weekend. So lovely to leave reality behind and I shall really miss it after this week.
