TV has been dreadful over Xmas so very much looking forward to Sherlock tonight. Did you know his internet fans are called Cumberbitches?

susiecb Fri 20-Jan-12 15:54:21

Watched the last episode of Sherlock again yesterday in the afternoon when I could be moderately sure of staying awake and I get it all now and how he he did it - wont spoil if for you though!

In Dallas, didn't someone get taken up in a UFO? But that wouldn't help re the body.......but they could have save his brain/mind and put it in another body. Like Doctor Who. Oh dear this is getting too much for me...but I do miss Nigel.

On the subject of The Archers I think I'll give it up if they have that wretched cow prison built.

And Tony Pat, Will and Nic are all a ghastly hallucination brought about by someone putting LSD in the yoghurt, probably awful kid of Kathy, and he is lingering in jail as they have thrown away the key.

And a whole year of Ambridge has to be rewritten! I remember that business of Bobby in the shower in "Dallas "(I think) but cannot remember how on earth the writers got themselves out of that! So Will and nauseous Nik would not be married, Pat and Tony would not have had eColi, Kathy's awful kid would still be awful, but Ruth would still be bleating "Deeavid....."
Would Henry have been a girl perhaps?
I know, I need to get a life.

Nigel's death was all a nightmare in Elizabeth's mind. He will emerge from the shower with his usual insouciance and ask 'What's for breakfast?'

Mamie Fri 20-Jan-12 06:51:30

I re-read the original just to check and indeed only Moriarty dies. Sherlock stays hidden because Moriarty's friends are still a danger and he needs to saty "dead" for a bit.
It made me realise that on my Kindle the books are listed alphabetically so I had to get out the books to check what happened next!

Nigel didn't really die when he fell off the roof then? Gosh - who did they bury then?grin

carboncareful Thu 19-Jan-12 22:30:22

Letter in today's Guardian:
So perhaps there's hope for Nigel yet!

Notsogrand Last read Sherlock Holmes when I was about 10 but I think you are right. Conan Doyle was heartily sick of Sherlock and tried to kill him off only to bring him back. Apparently only Moriarty went over the falls. Can't wait to see how they explain his reappearance. It's so brilliantly done, reinterpreting and updating the stories, but keeping the spirit of the originals.

gracesmum Tue 17-Jan-12 10:15:59

If Watson "saw what he expected to see" that harks back to last week's Hounds of Baskerville - so maybe a clue? Perhaps the girl provided the drug to that effect?
Annobel I agree about the "I am you" clue - sort of ties in doesn't it?

The plot thickens...... and Cumberbatch is assured of work in another series. Nothing actors ike less than being written out, as poor Nigel Pargeter's actor found out!(Somebody Seed??)

Have now consulted DS who identifies this as 'water-cooler TV' as all his colleagues have been discussing this too. The consensus seems to be that the power of suggestion was used to convince Watson that the body was Sherlock's. Was the Molly in the path lab in on it? And what about Mycroft? If he had to identify the body he would have to be in on it too!

jeni Tue 17-Jan-12 08:45:50

gracesmum I was thinking along the same lines!

Annobel Tue 17-Jan-12 08:43:29

I may have to watch this again and consult my very clued-up DS1 who will no doubt have some kind of explanation!

Annobel Tue 17-Jan-12 08:42:10

What was all that stuff about 'I am you'? I can't help thinking that there's a clue there.

Carol Tue 17-Jan-12 08:16:03

Mere technicalities Zephrine! I'm waiting with baited breath to find out what really happened.....so confused.

Zephrine Tue 17-Jan-12 08:08:21

...but Moriaty shot himself didn't he, if it wasn't him who was it? and if Sherlock had put a mask on him and thrown him off the building wouldn't someone have spotted the bullet wound.. er half his head missing. P.S. if anyone has some of that "bone rubberiser" could I have some please?

Carol Mon 16-Jan-12 21:43:36

Oooh! gracesmum how did you work all that out? Inspired! It would make sense if it was Moriarty he chucked off the building.

gracesmum Mon 16-Jan-12 21:37:10

Or was it Morarty in a Sherlock Holmes mask (as worn when children abducted by "Sherlock" thus explaining why the girl reacted like she did when she saw him)? And why did John have to stand just where he had to - so that the cyclist could run him down? Was he concussed so that he "saw" what he expected to see instead of looking closer at the "body" ?? The scene in the graveyard echoes Watson's belief that Holmes was dead in the novel. Clever!

Notsogrand Mon 16-Jan-12 17:40:01

I loved it too Hattie! Was it my imagination or was there a bit of a twinkle in Sherlock's eye for the girl in the lab? Watson's scene at the grave was very good, especially the 'Just don't be dead. OK?' bit, which had me snivelling.

Theory.....the girl in the lab supplied him with a chemical, temporary 'bone rubberiser' (and some blood) so when he hit the pavement, no bones were broken.

Why not? grin

jeni Mon 16-Jan-12 17:36:36

And me!

Zephrine Mon 16-Jan-12 16:43:28

Nope,.... still confused! blush

Hattie64 Mon 16-Jan-12 16:33:28

They will definitely have more episodes, I think about 5 million or so watch it. The ending followed the original book. He had been to see the girl in th lab beforehand, so obviously had some trick up his sleeve. The baddie shot himself so he couldn't phone the assassins not to shoot Sherlock so he therefore had to jump to save his friends. I loved it.

Zephrine Mon 16-Jan-12 14:02:02

If you go over a waterfall there is a remote possibility that you might survive but jump of a building and splat on the pavement? or was it all a drug induced dream?? I actually found last night's episode rather boring/predictable and got up in the middle to do something else which probably added to my confusion smile

GoldenGran Mon 16-Jan-12 10:16:06

Zephrine you are not alone in being confused! He will be resurrected and there will be more, but I do find it over-complicated, maybe I am just a bear of little brain.blush

Annobel Mon 16-Jan-12 09:55:25

Presumably that was not a ghost lurking in the graveyard!
