Silent Witness last night.

I haven't complained, jingl, but it did make me squirm. Also, it is such an easy thing for a youngster to copy, even though it was after the 'watershed'.

I did find this programe very difficult and not sure I want to go on watching it I fund the whole subject matter disturbing and had a horrible night mare on Sunday night and then couldn't sleep and i am no shrinking violet I've seen a lot of stuff in my time.

I like the programme, but am I the only one who thinks the sound quality was very poor?

Didn't see last night's, and from what you say am not sure that I'll bother to catch up on iplayer. Am beginning to find it rather relentlessly gruesome, and the main characters so b****y miserable I wonder why they get up every morning! Would have thought that with a job like that, they'd need a bit of light relief outside the 'office', but the scriptwriters seem to be focussed on eternal misery.

I'm sure us gransnetters could give them some ideas for racy storylines

I worry about the copying Green, especially being as it's the holidays and children would be up later.

There was a pretty strongly worded spoken warning at the begining of this prog so I suspect that will be their defence. I've long since realised that this series will always be dealing with some pretty horrid stuff so tend to avoid it.

I've been put off by the new way the programme seems to have been made. Lots of mood lighting, low camera shots, odd music and meaningful pauses. A little bit too full of itself.

Hilda there was a warning before the start of Coronation Street yesterday. It was about dementia. They give warnings out almost willy-nilly.

This was a little boy shown having a polythene bag put over his head and being suffocated.

It was WRONG to show it.

It has become a sick programme.

I was trying so hard to understand what was happening that I fell asleep. I was going to watch it on iplayer but now I don't think I will bother.

It was very convoluted. I would normally watch anything like that again to try and sort it out, but I can't see that particular scene again.

People become immune to the horror, worse and worse atrocities are shown on TV, it is not right and not pleasant.

Actually, jingl, that review almost made me want to watch the second half! (I didn't).

Have been thinking about this thread because although I had gone off this series and did know what to expect I did actually watch it because there was little else on and I was too weary to read a book or similar. In the first episode the characters discussed the horror of the crime and how they themselves reacted to such things. It troubled the characters that such things happened and so they felt even more inspired to solve the crimes and do their best for the victims. There was a back story about the professional standards required to ensure justice was finally done. Without wishing to over intellectualise the programme, because its hardly Tolstoy, I did feel there was a strong moral element to the story. I do think we need to be careful before we start to talk about banning certain things from being broadcast because we find it upsetting or distasteful. We are supposed to use our own judgement after all. I loathe a lot of the voyueristic so called documentaries on Channels 4 and 5 but I just choose not to watch them.

No. An acted child killing on-screen is wrong.

Particularly such a graphic one.

You have a point there, HildaW, but I think the suffocation of the child was unacceptable, while the other issues could even be considered commonplace in many dramas now.

I agree Greenmoss. It's just the child thing I'm objecting to.

Talk about "look, here's how" to any over-violentvideo/violentgames-fed children.

It's the BBC sinking to the level of the video games manufacturers.
