Titanic

I have been haunted by the Titanic disaster since the first film came out, and I then began to read everything I could lay my hands on concerning the disaster. That was a long time ago. I refused to see the James Cameron film and haven't watched any of the recent output. Silly really; but I don't know why they can't just leave it all alone.

Sorry you were upset shysal. It was an interesting slant on the tragedy, and really made you aware of what went on.

Len Goodman worked in the Ship building industry and his programme, in my opinion , was one of the best covering the Titanic Disaster. However I have now given up on the whole coverage-enough is enough.

There is a mysterious amount of interest in Titanic in Australian media. Why?

I think after 100 years, it can fairly be looked upon as history.

I have avoided it all - there is too much of it and it is all a bit macabre.

I agree that there's far too much coverage on the Titanic disaster, and as for the cruise - words fail me.
Not all that long after the horror of the Dunblane atrocity, a bus company actually ran a tour bus to the town, going past the school etc. I can't remember which company it was, but think it was from the south. There was quite a public outcry at the time.

During last night on the World Service, there was a programme where they used voice synthesizers to 'translate' the morse code messages that were being sent across the ocean that night, from and to the Titanic to other ships.
It was riveting!

Oh the Herald of Free Enterprise was heartbreaking wasn't it? I have always felt unsure of cross-Channel ferries ever since. I agree it was so unnecessary, especially in this day and age. So many "if only" s.

Enough plse and as for making a tourist attraction out of a huge maritime disaster words fail me.

I have often wondered about how many people take the opportunity to 'go missing' when a disaster happens. Not something I could do.

The marine disaster that has affected me most was the Herald of Free Enterprise as I lived near Dover and had sailed on the sister ship a few weeks before. So bloody unnecessary, if only the owners had listened to the warnings from the crew and installed a method of checking that the bow doors were closed - if only the young bosun had not been drinking and fallen asleep in his cabin - if only somebody else had thought to check..............

My husbands grandmother's brother in law was due to sail on the Titanic and missed the boat - How lucky was that. We did have the official notification of his death (Just a plain card printed in blue) and we found him on the booking list for the journey (£5. paid). However he was alive an kicking into the 1950's when he came to our wedding. Unfortunately, we lost the notification of his death when we moved in 2002. Probably worth a fortune now. Just thought you might be interested.

I watched the first one but wasn't impressed I haven't bothered since... a shame as I usually like all things Titanic..

Julian Fellowes four part drama has been really hard to follow and boring. The ironic comment 'We will never need enough life boats for all passengers' was just so obvious. I haven't watched the last episode.
I think it is ghoulish of people to be paying thousands of pounds to go on a cruise to the spot where it sank.

I haven't watched any of the coverage, documentary or drama. If I want to know more, I'm sure I can find it somewhere. What has Len Goodman got to do with it? He must have a contract with the BBC because he was on a series of morning programmes about the 1950s. He should stick to judging Strictly. he was so far OTT on the 50s that he practically went head over heels.

Maybe I've just lost the plot - in more ways than one!
