Guilty Pleasure: The Voice

I love it. I started watching because I adore Tom Jones but think it is brilliant Saturday (and Sunday this week) night television. I love all the judges now especially Will.I.Am (is that right?)

kitty You are so on trend with Will.I.Am he is such a good song writer and I like him when he is singing with Black Eyed Peas,I have also been watching The Million Pound Drop I find it facinating that so many contestants don't get the correct answers also the fact that they don't have any "older" players so some of the questions are out of their league altogether.

kitty I had missed the fact that it was on tonight so thank you, I am really enjoying it too.

And have you watched Celebrity Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Some of the news presenters and media people seem to be totally floored by the most mundane questions that the man/woman in the street would know straight away!

Aren't guilty pleasures wonderful? We have been watching The Voice as well. We talk over it quite a bit, commenting quite vocally on all the songs, the participants and the judges. It is pure escapism, but ridiclously enjoyable.

I was enjoying The Voice until the 'battle' began. Two singers trying to outscreech eachother, egged on by a shrieking audience, had us reaching for the remote. Can't face it tonight but looking forward to Vera and the wonderful Brenda Blethyn.

Had it on in the background last night but had my two DGD overnight so didn't really watch it properly, there did seem a lot of screeching going on though*merlotgran*. Have recorded the 2nd part. Thanks for reminding me about 'Vera' tonight, not keen on Vera herself but I like the good story lines.

Hilda Ruth is amazing, such a wonderful voice for one so young. I like Jaz as well. They must have gone through so many auditions before they even got on the show. I love it.

And Jaz is also excellent. Not keen on Tyler, I thought he should have left last night.

How terrible was Lana Del Ray? I thought all the contestants totally outdid her the night before.

sorry to disagree............I got totally bored with this after about the 2nd episode

So did I ninathenana, and just why does everyone have to scream these days. As opposed to this particular (The Voice) show, did anyone watch the finals of the children's choirs on Songs of Praise last night - no screaming there, just lovely voices beautifully trained by dedicated teachers - and I so felt for the grand-dad (I think) who was in tears. How lovely too, to hear one choirmaster thank everyone, including the parents. It is such a pity that there have to be winners and losers, but that of course is life.

Jaz & Ruth are THE BEST. And the judges (esp. Will.I.am and Jesse) are great, funny, humane. I have watched other versions here in Belgium, so far I like the UK approach the most ...

Agree about the choirs on SoP, they were all great and so were the judges, especially Russel Watson but don't agree about the screaming. Just look back at the 1960s and the Beatles, young people have been screaming since the baby boomers invented teenagers.

I have just read that Sunday's show wasn't live but pre-recorded on Saturday; also some of the audience noise was dubbed! I agree about screaming. It has become the norm on most talent shows. I can't understand why every performance has to be given a standing ovation. Also why every performance has to be accompanied by gyrating dancers. It must be off-putting for the performers. It's even worse on Strictly Come Dancing when on the Sunday show a singer performs. No sooner has he/she started to sing when gyrating dancers come on with every movement applauded by the audience completly drowning the poor singer!

Oh dear Towerhouse, I like the dancers! I also love SCD. I agree its a shame when the audience drowns out the singers but it is good to see enthusiasm as so much media time is given to moaning and complaining.

i agree with you towerhouse. I really cannot understand why, when the results are announced, some of the audience feel obliged to shout the names of their favourites as if they could possibly influence the outcome already determined by the viewers' votes. Moronic!
