She is back tonight, I hate the programme and I am taping it. I am curious to see if it is will be as bad as the last series.

I enjoyed the last series - it's on in a minute! smile

Like Hattie I really hated it last time. Love the books (Ann Cleeves) which can sometimes spoil a programme. Am giving it another go tonight and will see if it has got any better!

I wanted to like it the first time around, but it ground me down...Brenda Blethyn has been in so many better things. Won't be watching tonight.

It's frustrating when a TV adaptation doesn't live up to the books. DH and I have read all the Inspector Banks novels by Peter Robinson but were bitterly disappointed with the TV series. I like Vera but then I haven't read anything by Ann Cleeves.

Just seen it - I enjoyed it, can't often sit through two hours - haven't read the books....I think there were holes inthe plot though...

Dull, slow and dismal.

wisewoman Sun 22-Apr-12 22:21:57

Was disappointed again. So slow. Gangy5 summed it up perfectly

Merlotgran: I agree the Inspector Banks tv programmes were awful The books are really good. Don't read the Ann Cleeves books 'till the TV series is finished. (But do read them afterwards not only the Vera Stanhope ones but the Jimmy Perez ones as well)

Oh dear, I've recorded it, at least I can fast forward the boring bits. I do like the plots but disliked Vera.

merlotgran Sun 22-Apr-12 22:39:49

I'll put them on my list, wisewoman. She is not an author I have read so far but one of the many joys of being newly retired is to keep adding to a list of 'must reads'.

I`ve never read any of Ann Cleeves` books, but absolutely love the TV series Vera, as does my daughter, and we`re so pleased that it`s back on. I won`t be reading the books afterwards, as I also was disappointed with the Inspector Banks series after reading all the books.

Think half the problem is the adverts...they break the spell so I rarely watch ITV progs. One of the reasons I never got into Downton....that and that pompous Julian bloke who is ever so up himself!

I did watch it, wondered if it might be as good as the Swedish crime series I have started to watch. Wondered if it would be similar to the Killing. I am joking of course, same old Vera, she was wearing a bit of lipstick, that is the only difference since the last series.

Well, I liked it, so there! ( imagine stick out tongue emoticon )

I liked it, too - if only for the lovely shots of Northumberland.

greenmossgiel Tue 24-Apr-12 19:42:50

Me too! smile

Wish they'd do the Josephine Tey books.
