Topless at two

Hmm...did not happen in our secondary school version..headteacher Miss H would never have allowed THAT!!

Seriously though too much 'interpretation' can change a play totally! I did not see the film so not sure where it would have been seen..Antonio and Bassanio out on the town maybe?

Out of interest, I looked this up and apparently 'the scenes are thought to have been included in the film for reasons of historical accuracy'!

(No explanation of how a brothel got into the play...)

Shakespeare not known for coyness so if he thought it was important would presumably have put references in..perhaps the film makers thought film goers would not understand the references??

I can recall some quite fruity references towards the end of the play about what Portia was willing to do, given that Bassanio had parted with her ring, but nothing that suggests a brothel scene. As for historical accuracy – what on earth do they mean?

And I am still iffy about exposed bosoms on a Saturday afternoon.

In our school production of As You Like It, I remember my English teacher/producer getting all hot under the collar because she said she could see my bust bodice( I think she meant my bra) What would she have made of this production!
