Did anyone else watch this? I really like Benedict Cumberbatch and thought it was beautifully made. I found the time shifts irritating, but there was something about it that made me keep watching. The critical acclaim is high, so I wondered what other people thought?

He's wonderful in anything, dahlia! grin

Finished watching the last part of "Parade's End" yesterday, and we both enjoyed it very much. At times I found I had been holding my breath, waiting for the first kiss/lie/outrageous statement/gorgeous dress! I don't usually like BC, but really enjoyed him in this, although at times he did speak rather like Derek Jacobi in "I, Claudius"!
By the way, first time I saw the delicious Mr R. was in "Die Hard" when he played the villain again!

Darn it; I'll have to watch it now sad. I always wanted to be a continuity girl when I was young [wasn't sure what it was but it sounded good and I like spotting faults in films and suchlike; spotted one in the film I saw tonight!].

Yes! grin In the next scene, his roots weren't showing....

I think when one starts looking at things like that in a tv programme there's something wrong with the programme itself. However, I may have to iplayer it just to check out the dark roots. Possibly the most interesting thing to have happened in it's 4 weeks. Then may have to watch the others again to see if dark roots are different in each episode [eg when the time shifts do the roots change with it]?

Anagram Mon 17-Sept-12 22:34:15

I only caught a bit of it, but was fascinated by DC's dark roots in one scene! Why has he got to be blond? Is it in the book?

crimson Mon 17-Sept-12 22:19:56

I actually forgot to watch the last episode [I was watching Fairport Convention on BBC4]. Did I miss anything?

No crimson this time it is not us.

I've just read a review that was in yesterdays Independent and have read some incredibly clever dialogue that completely passed me by. Why is the sound so bad [or is it my hearing these days?]. Perhaps that's why I enjoy programmes with subtitles so much?

flowerfriend Sun 09-Sept-12 09:49:26

I am finding it both addictive and difficult to hear properly. Goodness me but you are so right merlotgran about the electricity between Christopher and Valentine.

merlotgran Sat 08-Sept-12 23:16:10

I've been unsure as to whether I really like it but I have to say the unrequited love between Christopher Tietjens and Valentine Wannop is beautifully portrayed. Far more meaningful than the will they won't they cheesy nonsense between Matthew and Mary Crawley in Downton Abbey.

Anagram Sat 08-Sept-12 22:43:52

Goodness knows! But it is a BBC production.....wink

crimson Sat 08-Sept-12 22:42:26

But why are all the newspaper reviewers raving about it? Is it an 'Emperor's New Clothes' thing? And we're the little boy in the crowd wink....

Ella46 Sat 08-Sept-12 21:59:27

I just couldn't be bothered with it this week, it seems a bit pointless.

crimson Sat 08-Sept-12 11:38:24

I nodded off a few times and am still finding it tedious. Given that it has been getting rave reviews am I just thick? And I find Benedict Cumberpatch very wooden, even though he is acting the most wooden character since Pinocchio [and even he became a real boy eventually; I doubt if Mr Cumberpatch is going to, at least not in this series] sad.

crimson Sat 01-Sept-12 19:28:27

I struggled to hear what was being said, but assumed it was the telly oop north [I struggled with a few other programmes as well]. Missed part of the first episode so couldn't really work out what was going on. Of the bit I did see I thought it was totally ourt of character for Benedict C [whatever his name is in the series] to have sex with a complete stranger in a train carriage [I think that's what happened...]. Once something out of character happens in a series I lose interest. It is beautifully filmed, though.

Oh! Just googled his mother, I remember her! That explains his, er, unusual looks....(sorry, fans!)

Ella46 Sat 01-Sept-12 18:50:32

Ben Cumberbach has certainly got a very expressive face! When he speaks he sounds just like his mum!

annodomini Sat 01-Sept-12 18:09:45

Call it a draw, kitty!

kittylester Sat 01-Sept-12 16:08:59

Anno as baddies go the divine Richard Armitage as Guy of Gisborne takes some beating.

HildaW Sat 01-Sept-12 14:21:25

Second episode - felt more into it. Its certainly a curious mix of drama, comedy and period settings and I like the fact you really have to pay attention.

Hunt Wed 29-Aug-12 23:34:05

My husband and I also found it difficult to hear what was going on. It makes the whole task of listening such a chore.

Alan Rickman in Truly, Madly, Deeply! The divine Rufus Sewell! The Holby thread! I'm going for a lie down - it's all too much. shock
