Oh dear; wish I'd realised before I went that the producer didn't have a big enough budget to make the film how he wanted so he set most of it in a theatre and turned it into a play within a play. Keira Knightley is Keira Knightley [yawn] but I spent most of the evening trying to work out who the actress was who played Kitty [she could actually act]; on returning home I found out it was Alicia Vikander who was in the Danish Film A Royal Affair that I was raving about a few months back. She is going to be very big. As for tonights film; all I can say is I was very upset about the horse sad.

I have never felt any sympathy for Anna because she left her child for a man.

I saw the film as well and found it very claustrophobic - which was perhaps the intention, but it mean that the grand passion was cramped as well.

Keira Knightley's cheekbones were magnificent. Every time she moved them to speak I wanted to scream and hide under the seat.

Good I can now tell my DH who is nagging me to go to see it, that we could spend our time more productively by staying home grin

It's many years since I read the book but a review I read said that the reader wasn't meant to sympathise with Anna and that Kitty was the one we were supposed to like. The trouble with the film is I didn't feel like or dislike for Anna/Keira..just total indifference. I do like Keira Knightley and I realise that she does want to be a good actress, but it's just not happening. Same thing happened to Leonardo di Caprio but, luckily for him he has become a good actor [although he'll still never look older than 16, he can still 'act' older].

Did anyone see the BBC adaptation screened - ooh possibly - 35 years ago? Nicola Paget played Anna, Eric Porter was Karenin and I forget who played Vronsky. Anyway I thought it was very well done and wish that I could get it on DVD. Anyone know if I could?

I fell asleep in the film which starred Omar Sharif so, on the basis that if even Omar Sharif couldn't keep me interested, there was absolutely no point going to see a version with Keira Knightley [yawn - exactly crimson]
