PS Nice pictures. Merlin worked somehow!!

I didn't really like the Bernard Cornwell Arthur ones (I'm more for The Once and Future King or the Crystal Cave and Hollow Hills version). I love Sharpe and the Anglo Saxon Cornwell novels though. The Anglo Saxon ones have a complete homicidal idiot as the hero but he's very sympathetic somehow
and I've learned a lot about the history.

Happy Birthday Colin x ♥ x

I've never read the Sharpe novels! Don't know why. I like his historical English stuff.

crimson Mon 31-Dec-12 18:44:59

Googled him. Bloomin nice lifestyle he has envy. I know someone that used to work as an extra on Sharpes Rifles. Not relevant at all but just thought I'd slip it in.

I second that anno. Good old Bernard (can't beat him) smile

This Merlin was a thing apart. Although the legend did sneak in a little bit at the end. grin

annodomini Mon 31-Dec-12 16:35:59

broomsticks, they didn't really use much of the Arthurian legend. It was very much Arthur and Merlin 'lite'. Better to read Bernard Cornwell's Arthur novels, to get a flavour of the legend and of the time in which it's assumed to have originated.

broomsticks Mon 31-Dec-12 16:02:28

I love Tintagel though they didn't use that part of the legend for Merlin.
Happy New Year everyone btw.

I always say a good film or series is one that stays with you and, when it ends it's like losing a dear friend. Having said that I've never seen Merlin but I could actually watch it all from the beginning [although I now know the end]. I should like it because I used to live in Tintagel in the shadow of the castle and was very wrapped up in the myth and legend surrounding it.

can't let go yet

annodomini Thu 27-Dec-12 19:51:33

Mischief, I see what you mean about Mr Stink though I think he was marginally less disreputable than the Merlin we saw at the end, trudging up the road!

Ella46 Thu 27-Dec-12 15:05:32

I thought the death scene was very touching, but the last episode was rather drawn out, which made the ending a bit of an anti climax!
sad sad

petallus Thu 27-Dec-12 14:13:17

I didn't like the last scene. It was out of keeping with the spirit of the rest of the series.

mischief Thu 27-Dec-12 14:09:59

I will miss Merlin soooooo much. Absolutely loved it.

However, I agree with Ella46 about the last scene. It seems Merlin (Emerys) has turned into Mr Stink (anyone see that one).

petallus Thu 27-Dec-12 13:18:46

Thanks j05.

I needed that.

I thought the death scene was really well done, very moving.

It wasn't today Lillygran

Lilygran Wed 26-Dec-12 23:12:34

But it has actually finished. End of series. End. Wail! sad

cheelu Wed 26-Dec-12 22:09:24

Ella46 I know how you feel when you say you are sad when it finishes because I feel that way about a programme that I like and when I said that to DH he said don't be sad just look forward to the next one, that helped me hope it help you..

cheelu Wed 26-Dec-12 22:02:54

Lots of GN's speak of Merlin so I thought I would see what it was about, I watched about 10 mins of it but it wasn't for me so attempted to turn it over but was not allowed to as DH was watching with me and he wanted to watch it til the end!!

petallus Wed 26-Dec-12 15:15:04

I've just watched the last Merlin episode and felt really upset when Arthur died.

I know, I know, sill of me, but who can account for the way emotions work?
