Skyfall - the new Bond

Went to see this last night. It was a much better film than we have come to expect from the franchise. A few set pieces of course, but quite a few laughs (taking the mick out of the Bond myth stuff). And a better plot. Craig looking convincingly knackered in the early section. Dench on form. Cameos by Rrralf Ffeinneesss and Albert FFFinnney.
OMG the adverts though were half an hour of torment. Lots of loud Bond themed ones. Missed NZ where they do not inflict more than one or two.
My tip, if you have to go in the evening, is to go early (so you don't have to sit at the front) and nab your seats. Then persuade a companion to sit tight while you go for a coffee or something. Or take a sound proofed bag to put your head in.

I have just watched the new Bond film Skyfall and I am not sure but I think the house that gets blown to smithereens is the same as the house used in The Woman In Black. What do you think?

We finally got to the film yesterday and I also thought it was one of the best Bond film ever, I love Dame Judy and its also the first time I've seen Daniel Craig in anything , I thought everyone was excellent I'd happily sit through it again... OH loved it too and he usually falls asleep at the flicks..

DH and I saw it tonight and loved it, It has the best and most chilling baddy in it played by Javier Bardez, he makes the film. One of the all time great Bond films.

Loved it! I even agreed with most of the critics reviews which makes a change.

Grannylin I think Monty did something similar recently or maybe it was the lovely Carol Klein?
wisemoman glad you enjoyed the film....

Just back from the cinema. I thought it was brilliant. One of the best Bonds ever.

Grannylin Tue 30-Oct-12 09:50:06

Thanks OGM, you've convinced me ..and I do like Daniel Craig. ( and thanks for the willow tip, am stilling working out how to do it grin)

Oldgreymare Tue 30-Oct-12 09:33:59

I'd given up on the 'Bond' films too but DGS was staying so it was a must.
I'm really glad I did! I thoroughly enjoyed the film, lovely references to classic Bond moments ( almost tongue in cheek) and 'that' car!
I too remember 'Our Friends in the North'.... great series.
Daniel Craig does admit it now takes months to get into shape..... but what a shape (lusting granny emoticon).

Can't stand James Bond films. Same old, same old. I think I might enjoy watching paint dry more. Still, must be me that is odd as most people I've spoken to seem to think they are wonderfull.

Roger Moore - nil points.

Anyone who insists that his Martini is shaken rather than stirred is a barbarian and should be banned from the Savoy forever.

Dragged a reluctant husband to see 'Skyfall' this afternoon, as it was our only day off from grandchildren this week. Last time we went to a 'Bond' film, it was a midnight premier of 'The Spy Who Loved Me' - pre-children! Hubby - who even prefers radio to TV - was very impressed with the new technology etc in this film. We really enjoyed it as a film - rather than as a 'Bond' film. Never having knowingly seen Daniel Craig in anything before, to us he was just the main actor and along with the others, and an excellent script, made it a very worthwhile, if rare, visit to the cinema. A big improvement on Sir Roger I'd say.

Jodi, you might regret saying that. I saw it and think it's about time the Ice Age series was quietly laid to rest. grin

Jodi Mon 29-Oct-12 22:47:04

Would sooner see the new Ice Age 4 hmm

Sorry, Daniel Craig does nothing for me at all. Saw his first two Bond films and was bored rigid. He completely ruined The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for me as well (not that it took much ruining - the Swedish version was so much better)

NannaB Mon 29-Oct-12 20:18:00

Saw it today and thought it was great. Mind I only get to go the cinema once in a bluemoon, so I do enjoy watching films on a large screen. (How sad is that!!)

isthisallthereis Mon 29-Oct-12 17:36:41

grannyactivist what a fantastic, lovely sounding evening!

scribbler Mon 29-Oct-12 14:15:59

My brother in law saw Skyfall last night, and told me it was marvellous, the only Bond film he'd happily sit through again. Coincidentally, I too saw a Bond film - I'm in Spain - Live and let Die, with Roger Moore, on TV. Unbelievably bad. It was quite a feat, rescuing the Bond series from the seventies low point.

JessM Mon 29-Oct-12 07:24:04

You're right absent particularly in the r. moore days. terrible. I went to the film because DH loves the pics. But this film is much less puerile than the roger moore days, it was quite a lot about his relationship with M, as played by judi dench.

With you there, absent.

I can't say I've ever enjoyed a Bond film, but this one has had very good reviews. Daniel Craig was very good in the American version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and I usually loathe American remakes of good films, so I think he's an actor who is worth seeing. It is quite interesting to see how Bond adapts to wherever women stand in society at that given time [although even now they seem to do more lying down blush].

absentgrana Sun 28-Oct-12 19:37:42

I think James Bond is the most boring and puerile character in adult fiction, so I shan't go and watch this film. I am also sorry that the lovely Adele seems to have turned into the rather harsh-sounding Shirley Bassey.

JessM Sun 28-Oct-12 17:56:01

Crimson it is a pretty straightforward plot - I don't think i had to nudge DH and ask what was happening once. grin

tanith Sun 28-Oct-12 17:46:09

I'll go and see it sometime this week sounds good so far..
