Woman's Hour Power List

The list shows just what a dearth of really powerful women there is in this country.

I'm not a fan of Victoria B but I can see how she made the list - she's a big influence, along with her hubby, in the celebrity & fashion worlds. And she deserves credit for manufacturing her very successful clothing line in the UK.

I suppose we will have to listen to the programme. Perhaps.

I still can't quite understand the difference between influence and power. I would have thought being able to influence people would be a powerful thing.

The whole of Mumsnet must have backed them! But to be fair, they did create something special and if Mumsnet hadn't existed, would we be doing this now? But I can't think why anyone nominated Victoria Beckham.

That is unfortunately true Ana. And not all mothers are good ones.

But I agree with the old adage, "The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world".

I can't honestly think of any woman in politics or anywhere else who would have had the power to influence me except my very good Mum. (And my Gran)

True, jingl, but not everyone has a mother during their developing years.

The only people I can think of who really have that ability is every mother of every child.

Couldn't narrow that down to a single name.

I don't always get chance to listen to Woman's Hour, but did this morning. I like this idea and listened to a few suggestions on the programme. Any opportunity to fly the flag for women, especially when they empower other women, is good for me.

Granny23 if you really want to know I nominated Justine Roberts...I feel that she has influenced the lives of a great many women through Mumsnet and Gransnet.

The judges all seem to be journalists, writers and politicians. It would be nice to see a few lady industrialists, City-folk, scientists, judges etc. on the panel, giving a bit of balance if nothing else. Maybe they were too busy - or had better things to do.

Well Lucid are you going to tell us WHO (or should that be WHOM?) you have nominated, or do you want us to guess?

I hate these lists. I wouldn't nominate anyone and I wouldn't bother to read them when they are published. Meaningless media rubbish.
