Went to see this film about Liberace today. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would and the acting was superb and the make up brilliant, after a while I forgot it was Michael Douglas on the screen, and Matt Damon was very good.

It initially was released to few cinemas but has proved to be a surprise hit and I think it is due to be released to a wider number. We were told at the cinema that in USA it is not shown in all cinemas due to the homosexual content.

Does anyone remember Jimmy Thompson? He did a great impression of Liberace.

I'm really looking forward to seeing it; Mark Kermode [as ever] did a good review of it.

I'd like to see it. I wonder if it's going to be on general release, though?

I think that is what is due to happen now Marelli saw something in the Sunday papers to that effect. It will be interesting to see if this film changes people's perceptions of the man!

I'm looking forward to seeing this. I remember watching him on TV. My mother loved his show on Sunday afternoons.

I saw the trailer and thought it looked like fun. We don't seem to have characters like Liberace now - not sure if that's a good or bad thing confused

I understand that it was made for television in the US, hence not going on general release in cinemas there.

We caught a bit of it when we were over there , it seemed interesting.

Saw it tonight. Did enjoy it but more for the acting than the content. Felt it was possibly more of a 'watch at home on the telly' film than a 'go to the cinema' one, but was probably expecting too much of it. Reminded me a bit of a programme I saw about Danny La Rue a while back [who obviously lived the same sort of life with the public/private personna at odds with each other, albeit both so glaringly camp and gay at a time when it wasn't acceptable].

It wasn't shown in American cinemas because no film company would finance it so HBO bankrolled it. hence it went straight to TV and is not eligible for the Oscars which I think is a pity.
A friend told me Michael Douglas must be gay as he is so good in the part so I had to remind her that he has admitted being a sex addict (with women) and that he is an actor.
