Strictly Come Dancing

Let's face it, neither Dave nor Mark can dance, and their professionals have given up on teaching them. They were funny for the first couple of weeks but it's all getting a bit samey now.

Was John Sergeant hounded off? I thought he simply chose to do the honest thing before better dancers had to leave the show and admired him for his integrity.

Sophia Ellis Bexter is technically very good but she lacks a certain something. There no fire in her and it showed this week in her Argentinian Tango.

Sorry but the programme IS a dance competition and NOT for charity apart from previous Children in Need Specials, of which there have been six. Unfortunately, if the public want competitors like Dave to carry on, there is not much that can be done about it, it is such a shame though for the "proper" dancers. He was quite shocked and offended at Craig's comments last night and really believes he is doing well. Quite sad really, and I wonder what happened with Natalie and what that's all about!!

This is a DANCE competition and yes it is for charity, so it would be good to see some DANCING, and not banging around posturing. I agree Dave and Mark are not good enough to continue in a DANCE competition (but tried) and should now be voted off and let the dancers get on with it. The two of them have been good fun and great sports, but it is serious now and those who have been able to conquer at least the basics should be allowed to carry on and entertain us with decent dances. Oh! dear, that sounds just like me laying down the law, sorry!

I agree seasider. I realise that some people are hoping to boost aspects of their career but it is an entertanment show and originally meant to raise money for Children in Need, if my memory is correct.

Not seen last night's Strictly yet but I do wish people would leave Dave alone. When it started Strictly was an entertainment show not a serious dancing contest. We all know Dave will not get to the final but if the public like him and vote for him why should he give up? I still remember John Sargeant's Pasa Doble as one of the funniest things I have ever seen but he was hounded out!

Susanna's waltz was amazing and she looked gorgeous in her dress. I loved Abey's charleston and Sophie's Argentine tango too.

Next week's Strictly will be live from Blackpool Tower (see original post on this thread, from seasider).
This, so we are told, is the 'spiritual home' of ballroom dancing so they all want to be there. If DD makes it, I think they were hoping to be able to do an exciting dance for this special place.

Don't watch much TV, but had it on tonight and saw quite a lot of the dancing - I thought the standard was amazing. The waltz was like a masterclass I thought and the Charleston so full of energy and enthusiasm. The guy who is fifty was a real trouper too. I shall try to watch it next week.

I missed the entire programme due to " no signal". I am not a happy bunny.

I thought Abbey's Cabaret Charleston was great and if DD wasn't involved, Abbey would get all my votes
I couldn't help it--I cried my way through the waltz, I just didn't know DD had it in her. I shall not know until tomorrow evening if she will dance in Blackpool--or if my G'ma services are needed next week for my lovely grandsons. We respect the secrecy, and I have to wait with trepidation.
But I really appreciate the positive comments from fellow Gransnetters. Please let me know if you ever need my support.
However--if DD doesn't get through this week--after that waltz--I'm throwing out my television!!!

I love Tess and Claudia and much prefer the show when they are 'running' it. We are always trying to come up with replacements for Bruce but the two girls do just fine

I thought Patrick and Susanna were both good, and Abby seems to be really enjoying herself now and dancing very well.
I think both Mark and Dave should go now.

Did anyone else think that Tess and Claudia were much better this week?
No posturing from Tess and humour from wacky Claudia, a great improvement on old Brucie.

Susanna was wonderful as usual, she's so enthusiastic! I'm afraid I can't warm to Sophie at all, although she dances very well.

Disappointed with Mark's performance this week, not his best, and Dave just yomped around...

GM, what a lovely waltz and what a gorgeous dress they made for Susanna. The performance made me feel unusually emotional. Brilliant! And Patrick is now my co-favourite.

If I wasn't such a bundle of nerves tonight--it's the scariest week yet , forget Hallowe'en, I'd suggest you did a critique after each show!

Oh I see! Susanna is very good - and I speak as an ex professional dancer. Many many moons ago, of course. I love seeing those like her blossom week after week - that's what it's all about. I shall miss tonight's show, unfortunately. Good luck to everyone!

DD made it into Gransnet last year when I started a thread about 'Walking a marathon in a day' in the Exercise forum. I had such a lot of support from many Gransnetters, and DD brought her boys down to Salisbury so they could walk their G'ma over the finishing line "like we did when mummy did her marathon". I had walked 26 miles cross country from Winchester to Salisbury, for charity. It took me 10 hours and I was shattered! The thought of seeing my grandsons kept me going.
DD is not 'dance-trained', she just works incredibly hard, loves the sheer joy of dancing and finds being taught by a professional (from Grimsby!) to dance for Strictly an enormous privilege.

I'm going to cheer Susanna on tonight. I can't stand Tess's posturing, and Bruce's terrible jokes, but I do have a soft spot for him nowadays.

Poor you, Anno what a choice! I agree Abbey is great--but if you could spare a few votes for DD as well, I shall be eternally grateful. Voting is earlier tonight--SCD finishes just before 8pm!

Hell's bells! Strictly clashes with Rugby! What a choice! But I have to watch Strictly and record the Rugby, because I feel the need to cast my votes!
