Tamara Mellon on Woman's Hour

I agree with grannyscarf I find weeks go by without my tuning into Woman's Hour. This would have been impossible some years ago. It seems that whenever I'm doing a job that means I can listen to Radio4 then the guest on WH is some celebrity or some such rubbish or a singer. So rarely do these women have much to contribute and now I don't bother turning it on..

Not comfortable with your sweeping statement, GN . I'd like to think not all trust fund youngsters are spoiled brats. Why should they be?
Some handle fortune well, and some not so well perhaps.

I've no idea who this young woman is, nor did I listen to the programme.

I've been listening to Woman's Hour for years but recently I've noticed a definite shift in the subjects covered. More feminist in approach than I am happy with and maybe an attempt to attract younger listeners, especially when Jane Garvie is in the chair (I know she wasn't today). In the past few weeks I've switched the dial to local radio and I did today when I heard what the topics were going to be discussed. Another wannabee author I did not want to hear. Many stories also now come from the developing world, and so much time was devoted to Malala, who is a remarkable young woman but, to my mind, overkill. So I didn't hear TM - sounds like I made the right choice. But I guess it's hard to please everyone...

Just one more spoiled brat like Paris Hilton and all the other 'trust fund babes'.

I've seen her in an interview, too - she's doing the rounds with her book. When she was challenged about making a fortune from the sale of the business, she said 'well I think I made THEM a lot of money!' She seems to be objecting to companies who acquire and re-sell thriving businesses, calls it 'flipping' over short periods of time, yet was content to participate herself. She now has another shoe business, so I assume she won't sell it when it's worth a fortune.....no?
