Hooray! The new series starts on BBC1 on Tuesday smile. Is anyone else looking forward to it? I have already set my recorder for the whole lot, in case I forget to watch.

I loved it too, but I do hope they don't just keep on making series after series just because it's been so popular and spoil it.

shysal I was a bit worried about him in the dance routine too tchgrin

We watched it on Christmas Eve, and enjoyed every minute. The grooms dance was a glory, and the whole episode just great for Christmas Eve viewing. I do hope there is a 3rd series, what a great cast of actors.

Lovely. Really lovely. Really looking forward to the next series. (Do you think the Beeb read GN?)

Eloethan Thu 26-Dec-13 23:05:15

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

PRINTMISS Thu 26-Dec-13 09:30:15

What a lovely programme to watch wasn't it? Just a bit of good old-fashioned happy happy, made me feel good, and set the pattern for the holidays, I think.

I really enjoyed last night's programme. I was half execting him to drop dead during the dance routine!
I shall look forward to a third series.

janeainsworth Wed 25-Dec-13 21:52:05

It said in the paper that there's going to be a third series next year smile

bikergran Wed 25-Dec-13 21:05:58

looks like they have left it open for possibly another series!

rockgran Wed 25-Dec-13 14:37:00

What a refreshing programme - so different. Funny, sad, clever, modern yet old fashioned. A triumph!

Thistledoo Wed 25-Dec-13 11:17:23

Yes saw it last night Alternativegran, wasn't it great. What an actor.
Merry Christmas.

Anyone see Alan's song in dance routine at the wedding in last nights Last Tango in Halifax?

Love Derek Jacob, his performance in I Claudius was amazing but never thought of him as a romantic pop idol, do now, ahhh.

One thing that you can say about Last Tango, is that the acting is very good all round. The other thing that I like is that there are no 'perfect' characters or all bad characters; just as in life, people are complex, they can be cruel one minute, but capable of great kindness the next.Intelligent people make stupid decisions sometimes, lies and secrets get out of hand.I don't think Celia is meant to be 'saintly' none of the characters are.We can all be selfish and unthinking. As IAM64 says, I think John is such a watchable character.

I caught up with this week's episode last night. The acting is superb. The filming is perfect, the scenes of our northern countryside just fabulous. It also makes me laugh, and I'm not watching much else on tv currently so it's good to have something (other than the Merekats, see other thread) to look forward to.
I am also increasingly enjoying the awful John.

cazthebookworm Wed 11-Dec-13 15:55:48

So much drama and crisis in the two families, it is all quite unbelievable, there is nothing that is straightforward, I felt drained by the end of this week's episode. Gillian's relationships with John and/or Robbie and the murder/suicide, the Caroline/Kate senario, the grandsons in trouble, scheming Celia and creepy Alan, ( the buckets of tears) yuk, the changing sizes of the baby, the funeral scenery, it's all so far fetched, nothing is normal. Even so, it somehow holds my attention and the acting is excellent.

gillybob Wed 11-Dec-13 14:05:56

I like Gillian. She does have a harder life than the spoilt brat Caroline who is so "up herself" (whatever that means). I can't stand Celia. Pretending that butter wouldn't melt in her mouth and cheese wouldn't choke her when all the time she is a scheming old cow witch.

They obviously have very advanced babies in Halifax J52 must be something they take during pregnancy!

ginny Wed 11-Dec-13 13:53:29

Have to agree with all you say * Wisewoman* Did anyone else think the scene leading into the funeral service ( a shot of the church) looked like a painting with trees placed in front of it ? Also , the baby seems to age and then get younger is various scenes. Last week we noticed it was raining heavily in the foreground at one point and the background had shadows where the sun was shining.

wisewoman Wed 11-Dec-13 09:53:22

I still enjoy it but it is becoming a bit of a pantomime. Maybe it is not supposed to be a realistic drama. smile DH and I watch each programme speculating what the latest shock scenario will be! Great acting though and there is not much else on tv worth watching IMHO.

J52 Wed 11-Dec-13 00:45:42

The 'newborn' was holding its head up in tonight episode! Amazing for one so young! X

Iam64 Thu 05-Dec-13 09:21:25

I agree with Merlotgran that the enormous baby can be adopted by Caroline and Kate, and the baby could continue to have contact with her birth parents and extended family - perfect (almost).
I agree with Ana, I don't think John has a different personality than the one we see. I don't believe having a shower and shave would improve his personality either. His emotional shortcomings are too great to patch up - just look at the way he treats his sons. Very very entertaining

petra Thu 05-Dec-13 09:10:40

I wish someone would tell John to have a wash and shave. Him and Gillian are well suited in that respect. Both need a good scrub.

Ana Wed 04-Dec-13 21:51:31

Hmm...I'm not at all sure that John has it in him to ever be anything other than whiney and full of self-pity, whatever happens!

merlotgran Wed 04-Dec-13 21:39:56

I hope Caroline raises the money to buy John out and he gets together with Gillian. He's probably quite nice when he hasn't got his bitchy wife and smug MIL breathing down his neck. Gillian can then tell Robbie to sling his hook and Caroline and Kate will adopt the baby and be lumbered with the oldies in the granny flat.

There you are, I've worked it all out. grin

petallus Wed 04-Dec-13 21:00:00

I'm enjoying it immenseley.

Eloethan Wed 04-Dec-13 20:53:26

I'm still enjoying it.
