Yes, it does look like Harvey, the dog in the clever ads. I didn't realise Mrs Barnaby [Joyce] did awful cooking? More like an awful hairstyle I thought and a bit po faced, humourless. The new Mrs Barnaby is an improvement all round, But I agree that John Nettles was better in the part [or Bergerac as we always call him.]They are probably running out of ideas, but thought the bicuit factory episode was quite good.

He has done lots of adverts but I'm not sure if it was him in the rabbit one.

Marelli Wed 19-Feb-14 18:47:02

Is the little dog the same one that's in the advert - it has a toy rabbit, or something? Can't remember the advert, but I do love the dog! grin

I used to love Midsomer Murders but I haven't been able to bring myself to watch it since John Nettles left. He is to MM what Peter Falk is to Columbo and Peter Sellars is to Pink Panther.

My OH went to the same school as John Nettles in Cornwall.

annodomini Tue 18-Feb-14 23:15:42

I couldn't stand that Joyce character! It's time John Nettles came back from his cruise, having pushed her overboard. grin

merlotgran Tue 18-Feb-14 22:44:34

Nicer house though, even if they do stack their logs by the front door!

Ana Tue 18-Feb-14 22:37:52

I always thought the actress who played Joyce was terrible! And what sort of a name is Cully? grin

But I agree, it's nowhere near as good without John Nettles and Ben Jones.

merlotgran Tue 18-Feb-14 22:34:54

The present characters are nowhere near as enjoyable to watch as Joyce with her awful cooking, Cully (what are YOU doing here?) Ben Jones and John Nettles' Barnaby telling him to kick yet another door in!

The dog's done all his tricks now so even he's getting boring.

I have never watched Midsomer Murders before but decided that as it was the 100th episode I would give it a whirl.

To be honest the only thing I liked about it was the dog. Barnaby, his sidekick and his wife seemed amateurish in their acting. The two brothers were quite fun, but I thought the apples stuck in their mouths was very childish.

I do realise that it is a very popular programme so it must just be me.

I love Poirot, Marple and Sherlock, so I will stick with those in future.

Finally I don't like cocoa either.

Deedaa Sat 15-Feb-14 19:14:37

At last!! Someone else who doesn't like cocoa! I thought it was just me. I'm always being nagged about not wearing my slippers, but I do like Midsomer !

Galen Fri 14-Feb-14 21:57:18

Don't like cocoa, rarely wear slippers, love Midsomer

I do hope poor Sykes isn't going to be neglected because of the baby. He's such a clever dog, he'll probably be changing nappies in the next one!

rosesarered Thu 13-Feb-14 11:31:59

Recorded it to watch tonight, didn't realise it would be so interesting.I love Sykes, I want a dog like that, anyone know what breed he is? maybe mongrel?Read in the paper that you know you are getting past it when you discover a liking for cocoa, slippers and Midsomer Murders. Oh dear.

Pittcity Thu 13-Feb-14 10:42:35

I really enjoyed it, especially as all those I suspected were bumped off one by one....why do people choose to live in Midsomer?

LizG Thu 13-Feb-14 00:05:18

I am glad you explained it Soutra because it went over my head. Interesting connection with Hamlet. I did spot the speedy ageing of the baby though. If there is one next week the child will be a toddler.

Aka Wed 12-Feb-14 23:24:56

I never notice things like that Ana I'm a continuity person's ideal viewer. Oddly enough Mr Aka always spots these mistakes.

Ana Wed 12-Feb-14 22:42:48

And how that baby changed - in hospital she had a lovely head of dark brown hair, and looked approximately the right size for a newborn. Once home, the same day, she looked at least three months old and was semi-bald!

Flowerofthewest Wed 12-Feb-14 22:42:27

Yep agree Soutra, loved it. Especially seeing the journalist from Borgen. I felt like it was visiting old friends. Wasn't the Biscuit factory strange, It looked like a laboratory rather than a biscuit making factory and what was the furnace doing there?

merlotgran Wed 12-Feb-14 22:32:51

For a moment I thought Sykes was going to have to deliver the baby! grin

Soutra Wed 12-Feb-14 22:30:57

ogh??? should have been "Oh"!

Soutra Wed 12-Feb-14 22:30:13

What larks! Tonight's (100th anniversary) episode was a joint effort with Danish Television set in England and Copenhagen with some very well known faces and some interesting Scandinavian references. So as well as trying to second guess the murderer we could play "spot the actor" and "spot the play/film"!!!
Chief detective in Copenhagen was Pernille from The Killing I, her sidebick was the journalist from Borgen; a woman who had had an affair with one of the murder victims (the first) was I think Troel's Hartmann's assistant/girlfriend from The Killing I and her brother a Danish pastor was the baddie/murderer also from The Killing I!! I kept expecting Sara Lund to appear any minute!
The plot owed not a little to Hamlet (Danish , geddit? ) with wife having affair with murdered husband's brother, cue brooding son,ogh and husband was poisoned and another of the murders was reminiscent of Babette's Feast. Very nearly a bit of incest - son's girlfriend turns out to be his half sister, too. Add in a bit of not very Danish Willie Wonka's chocolate factory for the biscuit factory and you get the picture.
Good couple of hours!! smile
