DH and I were crying with laughter watching M&W last Saturday night. They showed the short sketch where they are in the gents. Eric is a Legionnaire and Ernie dries his hands using the back of Eric's hat as a roller towel.

They were brilliant!

Unless they realised the implications of the music (which hopefully they did not!) the humour is somewhat lost.

I just think these programmes have an element of slapstick and just plain silliness that might appeal to children. I might try my 11 year old GS on Dad's Army when he comes to stay.

I remember a food safety and hygiene video for schools which featured the hilarious sketch of Morecambe and Wise dancing round the kitchen preparing breakfast to the music of The Stripper.

My class of yr 9s watched it completely straight faced and yawning. hmm

At the grave risk of sounding like an old fart, I pass on our deliberations this evening. We caught a bit of a Two Ronnies sketch whilst waiting for another programme and were so impressed with how clever it was - as well as funny of course. Brilliant dialogue, timing, choreography - and so much work had clearly gone into the finished product. Where can we see programmes like this made today? I can't think of any. Most so-called comedy shows are about "celebrities" messing about a bit or interviewing each other and plugging their shows.

We were thinking that our really very bright 5 year old GS might love it - although he would miss some of the double-entendres - and also Dad's Army and Morecambe and Wise - I think he would love them.
