The Missing

That's an interesting comment petallus, being irritated so not caring about any of the main characters.
We've had similar discussions in our book group, whether it's necessary to like the main characters to enjoy a book. We decided it wasn't, and that's my take on The Missing. I was shocked by the levels of violence Tony has displayed.

Problem is the main characters irritate me. Don't care what happens to any of them.

It's good but confusing and sometimes hard to follow and a bit silly.

For example he beat up the guy, was held in a jail then nothing more was said he was back outside. Consistency is really lacking.

I am right in thinking the 'boat scene' was in her imagination aren't I as the flash backs do start to confuse a little.

I struggle with the English as well GT. There have been previous complaints on gransnet about mumbling in various drama productions. I have turned the volume up, but still found some of the dialogue hard to hear

I need the subtitles because I can't always hear the English clearly

I am enjoying it, incredibly multi layered, I find I have to get off the laptop and pay attention. Quite a complex episode last night.

Good point GrannyTwice - I had to pull some knitting back recently, because I'd been too busy reading the subtitles when watching The Bridge to focus on the pattern as well.

Ironing though, not as complicated as knitting, and most of the Missing is in English…. unlike the Bridge

I am enjoying it. Sometimes good to watch something you have to concentrate on. Lots of twists and turns .

Oh the relief I thought my brain was turning to mush and couldn't follow a storyline anymore. But saying that can I trust all you gransnetters to be 'on the ball'

Iam- not sure that will work. You need to have your eyes glued to the screen and the subtitles on ( well I do)

Well, I have no idea what is happening either, but I am going to keep with it, because there must at some time be a tying up of ends - well I hope so!

I plan to catch up with The Missing some time today, when also catching up with ironing my clothes. Thanks for the link jingle, that will help me keep up

There`s far too much of the going back and forwards, it`s every couple of minutes, that`s why it`s confusing, doesn`t give the viewer time to absorb what`s happening in one time sphere before whisking us back to the other one. And I`m still having trouble following some of the dialogue.

I hope the Telegraph reviewer has got some easy to follow explanations at the ready. I thought it was confusing last week but this week was even worse.

Vincent Bourg (DH insists on calling him Victor Borge without his piano) must be fed up with being bashed senseless by Tony Hughes and I keep looking at the cast list in Radio Times to try and remember who the schoolteacher's brother is/was but I'm still none the wiser.

I think the young blonde woman (teacher) is the same woman the detective captured (well held) in the hotel toilet many years before. She was a an addict and had her throat slit didn't she pull her sweat her neck down and show the scar? Blimey I'm struggling with all the moving backwards and forwards. Quite liking it though.

I think I'll just read a summary later, I've just lost the will to continue trying to work it all out. All that grunting and groaning in the half-light. Shame, I was really looking forward to it.

Glad I didn't stick with it! I spent the last hour watching last week's episode of The Fall and won't be bothering with any more.

I think I've lost track, where did that young blonde woman appear from and is she the missing daughter ? of the 'Rebus' character and wife.

Me too - especially when I missed last week because I locked myself out.

papaoscar - I agree, so many distractions and flash backs, but I'm still watching. I watched on catch up this week and confess to replaying one scene. It didn't help though to watch it twice, still confused. It's the one with Rebus (I know it isn't really Rebus) and Nesbitt in the bar. Sinister or what!
