JL Christmas ad

Seven million whole pounds!

If they had donated 6.5 million pounds to Children in Need or another charity and spent £500,00 (more than enough) on a bloody advert I would have felt more inclined to shop there this Christmas.

I meant £500,000

I was so shocked I typed $500,00 at first, which is about £30,000 which is more like it imo.

I doubt if they are spending any more than the other big stores an supermarkets.

i read today that the WWF is getting a lot more applications for the adopt a Penguin scheme. this is helping to save the Adelie penguin, which is the one used in the ad.

I'd have to travel miles to the nearest John Lewis, Waitrose or Sainsbury's, so the ads certainly don't persuade me to shop at their stores.

I just like comparing the Christmas ones every year!

Again- just me seeing things differently. I hate those kiddies adverts which show toys making the most amazing stunts- they really want them and on Christmas day find that they are just .... inate bits of plastic, and are so disappointed. And the penguins are wonderful, aren't they- and they will turn out to be just ... very expensive stuffed toys, and end up in the corner of the room with the others. Sad.

Like street name taking on the names of the beautiful things destroyed to build the development- should be tackled by the Trades Description Act as Fraud. bah humbug.

no other adverts are allowed to portray lies to such an extent- and to the most influenceable- children (and their parents) should be protected from such blatant lies. Makes me so cross.

My daughter liked stuffed toys the most of all her toys.

We did 'media studies' in the infant school during the Autumn term to show children how packaging and adverts can 'trick' people into buying things. IMO the reason big business and finance ridicule media studies is because they know it will reveal their devious ways!

The Debenhams one didn't do it for me.Last years M&S was really good, but not so much this year. As some have said, only an advert after all, nothing to get worked up about. I love the JL one, and I like the song as well [and the singer.]I would still like the ad, even if I was on my own totally.My DGS had a 'doggy' that he used to take everywhere, a bit like the penguin in the ad.I also love the Harvey ad [the dog and his soft toy friend, the rabbit.]I want a dog just like him.

Same as Ana I would have to travel too far to a JL store, so don't shop there, and only maybe visit a Waitrose a couple of times a year.I buy from Debenhams because I like the goods [and the store is near] despite any ads, not because of them.

...I can't get the music from the JL add out of my head; and I hate it . Grrrr.

I wish we still had DD's large toy penguin. I could have fetched him out of the attic and been fashionable for once!

I am an empty nester.
I have taken to placing the stuffed toys[those that are still left here], in most of the rooms of the house as reminders of them. So I can go inwardly ah as I pass.

Well the ad to beat all ads (in my humble opinion) was on last night,once you see The Coca Cola Road Train Ad with the smiley Father Christmas on the back you certainly know Christmas is not too far away.

I know I gave a penguin (M&S?) to one of my GSs but can't remember which one!

DH suddenly noticed with horror, last night, that there were a lot of Christmas advertisements on TV. (We hadn't recorded "Downton Abbey" - which we usually do in order to fast forward through the adverts)

He'd managed to ignore the fact that I had made a large, brandy soaked fruit cake last week, or that a lot of things are arriving by mail order...

Bah humbug now rules!

he Christmas commercials - I just think it's nice to see what the creatives can do with a bit of a budget. Consider the work and the planning that goes into everything you see... pity some of it doesn't go into what you hear, but still...

rosesarered Thanks for that I never take anything seriously really unless it directly concerns me or mine life's too short.

I enjoy seeing what people have done and how they've done it feetlebaum although I often end up being so interested in how the ad has been put together that I completely miss what it's advertising

I never go to the theatre with DH because he spends the evening watching the lighting and seeing how many cues they miss!
