My daughter and I were going to go this week , I wasn't sure and now I'm wondering whether I should or not I hate blood and gore but I thought the story looked compelling.

DD and s-i-l went on Friday and said it was a "compelling" film but hard to watch in places. I think i might give it a miss. I'll wait till Dad's Army comes out in February

I'd like to see this film, but will have to wait until it reaches France. Quite apart from the story line, I'm interested in the art of making the film. All shot in natural light, for instance. Also a fan of the director.

I've seen it and it really is my sort of film but I wasn't 'blown away'. I was disappointed because I really wanted it to be great. Visually it is spectacular - the cinematography is amazing. Leonardo Dicaprio is one of my favourite actors but I don't think his performance is worthy of an Oscar compared to some of his other roles. Thought he was immense and should have won an Oscar for Blood Diamond, which I watched again yesterday. He is very good in The Revenant but in my opinion just very good which is also what I think the film is very good but not great.

I agree that the film is good but not the best this year. My favourite so far is 'Carol' with Cate Blanchett + Rooney Mara. Unfortunately films with female leads often get dismissed as ' women's films' or in this case a lesbian film.

I've bought the book but haven't started it yet.

I loved it; described on another forum as 'brutal but brilliant'. Would like to see it again. The book is supposed to be very good.
