On BBC 2 tonight series 3 of Line of Duty returns. It has 5 stars in my newspaper.

I have just watched the whole of series 2 on BBC IPlayer, even though I had seen it before it really was gripping and to be honest I had forgotten most of the twists and turns.

Enjoy smile

It was brilliant. It was hard to remember Adrian Dunbar was acting, he was superb this series. Craig Parkinson too as Dot. Hope they win an award or 2.

Ana I think at the appeal trial Lindsey was still found guilty of one of the two charges she was in prison for (she'd served enough time for the other one to be released immediately).

I'm not sure if Gill was guilty of anything except incompetence. Dot's death means we'll never know who he worked for now.

Two things bothered me. How come Fairbanks was suddenly fit to stand trial and, surely Steve blotted his copy book too much to be allowed to stay with AC 12?

Hope there's another series.

I'm not sure Gill was just guilty of incompetence - wasn't it more like, even when she knew the extent of corruption in the police force, she made a decision, for PR purposes, to help to try and cover it up? Or maybe it was more sinister than that - it was left a bit in the air, possibly to be re-visited in the next series, together with the identity of the person for whom Dot was working.

I think the final shoot out was to demonstrate that so many levels of the force had been corrupted, even the firearms team. I think it was also to show that people even higher up than the local bigwigs were involved in the the paedophile ring and that they would use all power at their disposal to prevent their involvement being revealed. Makes you wonder doesn't it.

WilmaKnickersfit Fri 29-Apr-16 00:20:08

I agree she was covering up for PR reasons, but I was thinking she was incompetent in thinking that approach was acceptable. I suspect your take is right though. I wasn't sure if she was a civilian appointment or a police officer. If she was a police officer, I did wonder at one point if she helped cover up the child abuse as a junior officer. The potential for deep rooted corruption was scary.

It was brilliant, great dialogue, no weak links amongst the actors and an enthralling final episode. I'm so relieved that Hastings, Steve and Kate all came out of it with their integrity (and everything else) intact.
Wilma - probably Fairbanks was never unfit to stand trial, it was a good attempt on his part to claim his faulty memory meant he wasn't. Steve's involvement with Lyndsay did leave her in a position to steal his note book but look at the result.

Am I right in thinking the profile suggested that the Caddie worked for organised crime? Yes, the potential for deep route corruption is scary

There were a few occurrences that were a little far fetched to make the plot work, but none the less, it was brilliant.
One thing I did not understand was, why was there an armed guard for Dot when he was interviewed ?.. If it was because he was suspected of murder, why did Steve not have the same guard ?

It was great, yes one or two anomalies, but so what, we were glued to the television for l one and a half hours, with superb acting that really took us into the story, because that is what it was, and beautifully written. More please.

pompa Fri 29-Apr-16 08:11:28

Series 4 is on the way, wonder which way the plot will twist, there must be more bad apples lurking in the barrel. Can't wait.

Phew! Still digesting all that!

I thought the final few minutes were a bit OTT, but blimey-those two actors must be fit!

I think there's more to come from Gill. So glad Fairbanks will stand trial after all. Looking forward to that.

Still not quite clear why the getaway vehicle seemed to be driving around in circles.....and what happened to the driver? Who was the driver, come to that?

I KNEW Maneet would have a hand in it somehow!

Maggiemaybe Fri 29-Apr-16 08:26:45

What a brilliant series, particularly the last episode. I didn't think there would be a series 4, the way the summing up was done just before the credits, so I'm very pleased to hear that there is going to be.

Superb. Better than a few other dramas around at present. So glad they got him. We were on the edge of our seat. Who were his controllers? A bit ott but not rushed like the end of Scott and Bailey.

Ana Fri 29-Apr-16 09:40:03

I wondered about those armed police officers outside the interview room too, pompa.

Leticia Fri 29-Apr-16 17:01:24

I thought it was superb- who would think that the police interviews could be so tense and such good drama?
I shall now watch series 1 and 2.

Leticia Fri 29-Apr-16 17:02:12

Glad to say that it really didn't matter not having seen the previous series.

Maggiemaybe Fri 29-Apr-16 18:29:32

I thought series 3 was even better than 2, Leticia. We didn't see 1, so have that treat to come.

trisher Fri 29-Apr-16 19:41:25

Loved it especially the uncertainty about who Kate was really investigating. The interviews were so gripping. Ending was a bit OTT.

Iam64 Fri 29-Apr-16 20:43:55

Could Kate be the next James Bond - all that running, commandeering trucks at the same time as carrying a machine gun, phew.

NanKate Fri 29-Apr-16 21:26:18

Was there anything said in the summing up titles at the end to say if the Asian police officer, can't remember his name, was released as Dot set him up. Perhaps not as he was receiving those dodgy mobile phones from Dot - a bit confused.

Excellent series and Keely Hawes was brilliant IMO.

WilmaKnickersfit Fri 29-Apr-16 22:12:26

Hari Bains. No, I don't think it was NanKate. I can't remember how his story ended. Didn't he confess to liking Danny?

POGS Fri 29-Apr-16 22:14:38

Caught up tonight and wondered whether or not to post , After The Lord Mayors Show type of thing.

It was just too good not to comment on however. I thought it was brilliant and I agree , edge of the seat stuff. If Dot had gotten away with it or there was no conclusion I think I would have put my foot through the tele.

Certainly up there with the likes of Happy Valley. Great viewing.

Ana Fri 29-Apr-16 22:19:29

Hari Bains? confused

carerof123 Fri 29-Apr-16 22:35:58

Lets hope the next series will answer some of our questions.

What happened to Hari Bains and the PR lady.

Who are the men at the top, the court case against Fairbanks, so want to see him bought to justice for his awful crimes.

Will Steve be reinstated? There are so many avenues the story line could go down or it may be a entirely new one. I can't wait!!!

WilmaKnickersfit Fri 29-Apr-16 22:50:53

Ana Hari was the Asian officer Dot got the award for catching.

carerof123 the summary at the end showed Steve was reinstated. I think Gill will have resigned as suggested by Ted.

Talking about Gill, I didn't recognise Polly Walker at first. She's put on a lot of weight since I saw her last. I think it was in Rome where she was naked a lot! grin

Leticia Sat 07-May-16 15:46:28

I am now watching series 1 - they all look much younger!

tanith Sat 07-May-16 19:02:59

I read today the next series will be on BBC1 as it gained such a large audience..

Alima Sun 08-May-16 06:56:04

I have just opened my birthday present, it is series 1 and 2 of Line of Duty, I cannot wait to watch it, should fill in a few gaps!
