The Living and the Dead BBC1 (or iPlayer)

I watched the box set and thought it was very good, so many twists and turns. There is a series 2 BBC 1 is yet to make a decision on its future.

There is so much still happening in the dark, yes I know it is supposed to be dark, but I am finding it more and more difficult to follow the story and enjoy it. I shall continue to watch only because I want to find out what happens, but really, as far as I am concerned it is not GOOD television. I am even finding the acting a little wooden.

Not reading this because we are what watching it week by week. Maybe spoilers on the thread. Enjoying it, exciting and chilling.

I really enjoyed it . Very imaginative and well done , but I love British drama , we don`t get enough .

I've still got most of the working lights on throughout the night. I dread to think what I'd do if there was a power cut at the moment ...

I watched them all over a couple of days! I really enjoyed the series, I do like to be spooked occasionally. I hope they make a second series.

Well, I'm glad I stuck with this because the end was rather good and I really had no idea what was going to happen. I nearly gave up half way through episode 5 as I was so scared [the S.O. isn't staying over at the moment and some of the lights in my house aren't working], but I pressed stop and watched it in the daytime. Having said that, I do sort of wish I hadn't seen it as it was so melancholy and it's left me feeling a bit down. I keep starting series and then having to see them through to the bitter end. I can see someone making a film of this one. It reminded me of some of del Torros' films.

It is all in the dark AGAIN. I know it is supposed to be ghostly, but it would be good to SEE what is happening ghostily (if there is such a word - probably mis-spelled).

Thought the 5 and 6th episodes were really good, and liked the ending.

I've always loved the Lyke Wake Dirge. I agree with sarahc446655 that The Hollow Crown was very good, but, for my money the best thing the BBC has ever done was Wolf Hall.

cathymum I believe all the music on the show is by The Insects. Their web site is interesting, they write a lot of film and tv music.

I enjoyed this but the ending was a bit of a let down, I can't get the theme music out of my head though " Lyke wake dirge" really atmospheric.

You've got to be so careful with 'ghost stories' to avoid them looking naff naff naff.
Watched the first half hour of Living and the Dead and couldn't work out which one the author or producer was. It was awful - if you want quality that is off the scale watch the Hollow Crown box set ( was recently on BBC) history with Shakespeare doing the dialogue - the best thing the BBC has ever done.

Have watched four episides now, it gets a lot better, and the fourth episode the best of all, it has got into it's stride now.

Finally got round to watching the first part. I think it looks quite promising. Wasn't the girl wonderfully Pre Raphaelite? She would make a great Lizzie Siddal.

Ok I've seen it now having tried twice (keep falling asleep) yes its good isn't it - very different. Interesting how its an early psychologist tackling the phenomena. I shall keep watching DH loves all things spooky as well.

roses it's sort of "time is a river, all seen at once". Very clever.

I prefer the box set way of watching.

This series could be so much better if they got historical details right (can't give spoilers) I know it's a bit pedantic, but if people act in a way we know they didn't in those days,it spoils it slightly.
I do like the 'time is a river' touches, good idea.

It did me nicely over the last couple of weeks or so. One episode an evening. Great!

Odd idea putting it out on iPlayer as a 'box set', but apparently that is how a lot of people watch tv these days.

Actually it might b the third episode that I found particularly upsetting. It involves a little boy from the village.
