"Alas poor Scruff, I knew him well, who could forget that pungent smell?"

LullyDully Wed 07-Sept-16 08:02:46

I did feel a great relief when it all came out, but not just 2 rapes, many..........brownies and real.custard please. Poor Helen when the prosecution gets going.

Luckygirl Tue 06-Sept-16 22:29:33

Well - at last!

Nandalot Tue 06-Sept-16 22:20:53

Just caught it on catch up. A cheer here for Helen, even from DH who usually groans when TA is on.

merlotgran Tue 06-Sept-16 22:20:37

Surely once the news of the rapes gets out Justin will re-consider Rob's job offer? He's keen to maintain a high social standing in the village and Helen is related to just about all the people he's sucking up to.

eGJ Tue 06-Sept-16 21:27:03

I was at a party and just heard it on catch up. At least the rape has been reported, but WE all knew! I can't stand the whispering and please, please can Ursula get her come-uppance! Shysal have you found lowfield? I found it useful when abroad to keep in touch!,grin years ago my mother would send me a précis for my return from holiday.....all in longhand; it ran to several pages. Glad she is not around to hear the present shenanigans. Can we all last the week out?
I notice they haven't called ALL the thousands (millions) of witnesses of it all to help!
I think brownies, fizz, gin and hankies are severely needed wine

.

Gracesgran Tue 06-Sept-16 19:22:41

Who is "with him now" the women from the Domestic Violence Help line or Jess?

Could someone send a hug please. That was dreadful.

Elrel Tue 06-Sept-16 19:20:02

Dodo??!!
*so horrible

merlotgran Tue 06-Sept-16 19:19:58

I wish we could have heard Anna cross-examining Ursula.

Pat is doing my head in.

Elrel Tue 06-Sept-16 19:19:09

At last! Helen is so ashamed of Rob's violence she even apologised to her parents, dodo horrible. Anna earned her fees today I think.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 06-Sept-16 19:17:55

Helen did well! She said about the rapes. She's got a chance!

When did Pat turn into a wuss? confused And why won't the sodding whisperers just shut up?!

suzied Tue 06-Sept-16 19:17:13

Go Helen!

Gracesgran Tue 06-Sept-16 18:53:28

It's an interesting read and chimes with much of what has been said on here. Frustrating though it is, it is possible to understand Helen's difficulties after the years of abuse but I do not feel the SWs have written Anna, as Helen's barrister, well. The lack of information from a solicitor, fact gathering in Ambridge and a psychiatric report (could still be presented I suppose) are all things commented on by posters on this thread.

Is this the one *LG*?

The Archers trial: verdicts from the counsellor, the lawyer and the prison expert

Lazigirl Tue 06-Sept-16 18:11:17

There's a piece in Guardian today with a barrister, counsellor and prison official giving their views on trial. Barrister's opinion is that Anna's doing a crap job, and in particular draws attention to lack of psychological assessment and thinks Helen has no chance if she continues in same vein. I have had a look at RT preview and I agree not looking hopeful, but am still trying to be optimistic.

Gracesgran Tue 06-Sept-16 17:39:07

I am still thinking that Helen will be found guilty of the lower charge. They will have (I think, does anyone know?) to take into account the time she has already been in prison on remand and, if they have got the message about Rob's behaviour towards her, have to balance that too - although not too sure about that.

As she will have no were else to go, she will live with Pat and Tony when she gets out so it seems reasonable that the family court look at Henry going to Pat an Tony as well. It isn't, after all, just between Pat & Tony, Rob or Helen. As I understand it they could all be found unsafe and he could be fostered.

Alternatively, even if Helen gets off both charges, she will still be living at the farm and I have no doubt Rob will have brought up the Otto incident to show it is unsafe whether Helen is there or not.

shysal Tue 06-Sept-16 17:15:25

Thanks eGJ, I hadn't heard of the Lowfield site.

The Ambridge diary page of RT mentions that Pat will be questioned about Tony v Otto the bull at the family court hearing, and says 'will it have a bearing on who gets to look after Henry and Jack?'
Does this mean that Helen is to remain in custody?

eGJ Tue 06-Sept-16 16:57:18

Shysal if you miss the denouement go and look at “lowfield” later in the evening; they get it right and in fuller detail than the BBc site!

LullyDully Tue 06-Sept-16 16:42:39

I do hope so. Especially as I made the mistake of just wandering over to our sisters on Mumsnet who seemed to have abandoned all hope. Feel bad now. wine

merlotgran Tue 06-Sept-16 16:39:09

I think Henry can be called to give more evidence via video link, Lully. The barristers remove their wigs and gowns and the questions are 'child friendly'

I was a juror on a case that was eerily similar in that a child's evidence was crucial to the verdict. The boy was seven so slightly older than Henry and he answered the questions clearly and without hesitation. He obviously hadn't been groomed by Rob!! grin

LullyDully Tue 06-Sept-16 16:30:20

Surely Henry's bit is.over now and proved of no help.whatsoever. Good old Kirsty should have raised some doubts.

If we have brownies could we please.have some REAL custard.

Seems to me if anyone gets Rob annoyed it's poor.Ursula.who tries to please him and her husband, poor thing.( did I actually say that?)

Gracesgran Tue 06-Sept-16 16:23:47

Merlot glad glad it's not just me. I heard the clapping too but I don't think the judge will like it!

shysal Tue 06-Sept-16 14:55:41

Just checked the new Radio Times and yes, there is an hour long episode on Sunday evening.

I do feel that they wouldn't have got in an actress to play the nanny unless she was to feature in the future, which doesn't bode well. I had also thought that she could be Rob's next target.

Does anyone else record the evening episodes on their TV? Annoyingly, my digibox always misses off the last minute or so, i.e. any cliff hangers. I find it really annoying!

merlotgran Tue 06-Sept-16 14:53:56

There was definitely applause from the gallery which must have rattled Bruce who is being very restrained given the fact he's an outspoken tyrant.

I'm hoping Ursula will crumble under cross examination. She'll be caught between Rob's blubbing and Bruce's glowering.

I wish I hadn't read those spoilers on Mumsnet hmm

LindaWW Tue 06-Sept-16 14:42:54

Did I hear applause after Kirsty's outburst, or was it my wishful thinking?

Gracesgran Tue 06-Sept-16 13:54:16

Just looked at the spoilers on Mumsnet and my heart turned over although someone quickly gave a less obvious but more positive explanation.

Is there really a one hour episode on Sunday?
