"Alas poor Scruff, I knew him well, who could forget that pungent smell?"

merlotgran Tue 06-Sept-16 13:18:37

The prosecution are likely to say she's made it up on the spot as it won't have been foreclosed by the defence prior to the trial. Not sure it will do any good unless Rob admits to it in a fit of temper. Anna seems to be good at rattling him so fingers crossed.

My money's still on Henry 'telling the truth' during cross examination.

Elrel Tue 06-Sept-16 13:15:26

Go Kirsty! She said what she'd come to say and no one there can unhear it!
Any chance of evidence from the boarding school headteacher or the women's helpline records??

Lazigirl Tue 06-Sept-16 12:59:20

I feel that the rape must come out at some stage as they have built the tension up to expect it. Pat said something like Anna had told her she felt that Helen was opening up much more but there's still more and possibly something big that she hasn't disclosed. Surely they won't just leave it like that?? I don't know what the legal implications would be. From a drama point of view I think they will portray things as looking very black for Helen, until some dramatic last minute intervention that will save the day but you're right Iam it would be very Perry Mason.

A whole hour n Sunday according to the RT.TThe custody battle is mentioned; does that go ahead if she’s cleared?

Iam64 Mon 05-Sept-16 19:39:14

Yes, the whispering in the public gallery is very irritating for the listening public. Don't they know that so many of us are sitting on our sofas, or cooking in our kitchens, or sitting in lay-bys listening to our radios or worse, driving along listening and all of us shouting "sssshhhh Tom (whoever) we're trying to listen to this.

Some of Carol's …. brownies would go down a treat, we're only on day 2 and all our poor nerves are getting frazzled. I'm reaching of the soothing knitting.

Graces - like lazigril, I had the nanny down as the next in a line of Rob victims.
I had also thought about the rape issue. My fear is it may become a bit Perry Mason if Helen finally shouts under examination in chief the extent of Rob's abuse of her. It stretches credulity to have that happen because if its to be taken seriously by the Court, doesn't it mean the the police would have to investigate the allegations. Would that mean the trial is adjourned, if so would that leave Helen out on bail and which parent would be allowed to live in Ambridge, how many feet would they be able to be within each other? Right where are those brownies?

Gracesgran Mon 05-Sept-16 19:30:58

I agree merlot re Pat, she is the worry. I thought that Rob being angry with Henry would carry more weight but perhaps Helen will remember more because she has heard him.

Kirsty is such a good friend and I am trying to remember this is the prosecutions case; it is the best they have so please, please can Anna do better.

merlotgran Mon 05-Sept-16 19:26:12

If Henry's a real boy I'll eat a whole batch of Shula's sandwiches!

merlotgran Mon 05-Sept-16 19:24:58

Well done, Kirsty. I can't say I'm looking forward to Pat giving evidence though.

I wish they'd stop all the stage whispering. It would never be allowed in a real court and it didn't help. We needed to hear what Henry was saying.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Sept-16 19:21:49

Is Henry played by a boy, or by a woman putting on a 'little boy' voice. Sounded right daft.

Kirsty did her best. Bless.

Gracesgran Mon 05-Sept-16 19:19:46

Is everyone OK?

Lazigirl Mon 05-Sept-16 18:21:54

I'm up for the "rock" cakes for definite! Will help me cope with the stress. A nice burgundy too wouldn't go amiss.

merlotgran Mon 05-Sept-16 17:36:35

Please tell me we've finished Shula's paste sandwiches. They were curling up round the edges the last time I looked.

Maybe Carol could make us up a batch of hash rock cakes. I'm sure Bruce might welcome a bit of home cooking hmm and all the Lemon Drizzle's gone.

Peace and Love!!

Gracesgran Mon 05-Sept-16 17:28:23

I hadn't thought about the nanny LG sad

I have been visiting Mustardland and found an interesting bit on one of their threads. Right ... Listen very carefully, I shall say this only once (smile I don't think my brain will cope with more than that.)

Apparently much of the evidence has to be disclosed so Anna could not present surprise evidence. Is this, I ask myself, why the SWs have not let Helen tell Anna about the rape? This is not, currently, in the evidence but what happens if Helen blurts it out say, under difficult questioning from the prosecution?

Just a thought.

(I'm going to include some of Tom's sausages for tonight's picnic but only if he has started making gluten/wheat free ones. I did think of getting hold of one of Jill's Lemon Drizzles but I can't eat that either so I may be forced to just ask Carol for some raspberries from her garden grin)

merlotgran Mon 05-Sept-16 13:10:48

I wonder what Bruce thought of all the weeping and wailing? hmm

Luckygirl Mon 05-Sept-16 13:03:15

Perhaps Anna should ask him why he is using a stick in court when he has not done so round the village for months!

Lazigirl Mon 05-Sept-16 08:39:37

He's got one lined up with the nanny Gg

Gracesgran Sun 04-Sept-16 21:08:56

I'm glad you kept the needles sheathed tricoteuse I mean Iam grin I can imagine several people in the courtroom (other than us) who might make a grab for them if Rob is unattendedshock

I don't know enough about it but it think someone like Rob would have difficulty dealing with lots of people as he has honed his skills on one to one situations. Ugh, the thought that people like him go on to another poor women and he would, I am sure he would.

Iam64 Sun 04-Sept-16 20:42:30

Lazigirl, I kept the knitting in my bag because after I typed my earlier post, visions of the French revolution and the guillotine came into my mind and I felt slightly nauseous. Also I was a bit worried the knitting needles could possibly be seen as potentially dangerous weapons when I was searched at the door of the court. They're bamboo of course but even so, could be useful as a weapon if necessary.

Rob soon began to crumble (lol) when put under pressure by Ana didn't he. Let's hope the members of the Jury aren't persuaded that giving your 8 month pregnant wife a slap is justifiable on any level. Also, that resorting to sobbing when you are put under a bit of pressure by Anna is not the way to convince the Jury of your stability.

Gracesgran Sun 04-Sept-16 20:04:20

Mmm. Kirsty could try and be protective of Helen which may not come over well but I agree that Pat is the loose cannon.

merlotgran Sun 04-Sept-16 19:55:59

I think Kirsty will keep a cool head but Pat's sure to put her foot in it somehow.

Gracesgran Sun 04-Sept-16 19:49:52

I don't think we were whispering as loudly as Tom LD smile

Gracesgran Sun 04-Sept-16 19:48:00

It had to be his greatest ever performance Lazigirl as he will not be on the stand again I don't think. I hope doubt has been put in the mind of the jury with admitting the slap. All he can now rely on is the prosecution Barrister although that is bad enough as I have no doubt he will tie some of the witnesses in knots. I am worried what Henry's evidence will be. As far as I can see he cannot defend himself against the 'bad character' evidence although the prosecution could try and destroy it.

The prosecution puts all their evidence first, don't they, so we should hear what they are trying to get out of Henry's, Kirsty's and Pat's next (?)

LullyDully Sun 04-Sept-16 19:44:14

Nice to meet all the other addicts. Do you think he believes his sad, tear jerking lies? They could throw us out if we can't keep quiet MG.

merlotgran Sun 04-Sept-16 19:18:56

I'm surprised there wasn't a loud cheer when Rob admitted he'd slapped Helen.

Lazigirl Sun 04-Sept-16 19:18:03

Oscar to Rob.......
