"Alas poor Scruff, I knew him well, who could forget that pungent smell?"

Gracesgran Tue 23-Aug-16 22:53:00

I gained a couple of 'd's - not sure where they came from confused

Iam64 Tue 23-Aug-16 21:00:06

Yes, there is Gracesgran - but don't use it! We Archers addicts on gransnet need to stand together, support each other through what is bound to be a difficult few weeks (months?,please not years)

Gracesgran Tue 23-Aug-16 20:30:08

Brilliant in a dreadful way ... and really hairs standing up on the back of your neck conversation. Love the comparison with Jane Eyre merlot.

I am definitely getting the "can I hibernate until it is all over feeling". If things seem uncomfortable with Harrison not wanting a drink just wait until Adam hears what Rob's new job is.

(There is an off switch; there is and off switch; there is and off switch).

LullyDully Tue 23-Aug-16 20:25:18

I wondered if Rob has poor Charlotte in mind for the new Mrs Titchener .

merlotgran Tue 23-Aug-16 20:11:52

We're straying into Jane Eyre territory only the mad wife isn't in the attic.

Will Charlotte be wearing a Norland Nanny uniform?

Iam64 Tue 23-Aug-16 19:42:10

I only caught the final bit, where Rob made some hideous comment suggesting she's perfect for the job. Let's hope Henry forms a confiding relationship with this new person, she has no baggage, he doesn't have to protect his relationship with her, as he does with Rob and even with Pat and tony. He will be aware of the tension between the significant people in his life and no doubt trying hard not to upset anyone. No such worries with the new nanny. I do hope he can talk to her about daddy throwing his rabbit in the bin, shouting at mummy, making her cry and frightening Henry.

AyjayF Tue 23-Aug-16 19:31:56

I'm feeling sorry for nanny Charlotte already!

It's reassuring that if we remember we've forgotten, our memories are probably ok. Phew, is all I can say. We have some friends of our daughters here. They set up as gardeners after their gap (several) years of travelling, working abroad and honestly, having a lot more fun than I did at their age.
Anyway, I digress again. They are raising the border at the bottom of our garden. I won't mention the neighbour's leylandi taking all the light there because that would be whinging. I asked them if they could removed "the remains of that tree/shrub, in that corner there. It's a thing that flowers in spring, not a fuchsia, it's a yellow thing…… " He looked as puzzled as I felt, ah yes, he said, I know what you mean, it's a …….. Later, when walking the dogs, it lept into what is left of my brain - it's a forsythia, of course it is.

I'm so relieved that this thread seems to have brightened up again. Phoenix, I can be very dim and have had some challenging health stuff recently so that may be the reason I missed out on what had upset you. Please don't leave us - I loved the title you gave this thread. We will need all the help we can give each other as the trial is now almost upon us. Henry needs our combined grannyness to help him through. His mother may be irritating some of her followers but come on - she isn't as bad as Rob!

Elegran Tue 23-Aug-16 17:39:33

grin I'm not quite there yet then!

Gracesgran Tue 23-Aug-16 17:28:26

There are times with the current story line that I think that would not be a bad thing Elegran (running out of things to discuss) I will be glad when it is no longer so overwhelming.

Apparently, and not at all scientifically, your memory is probably OK if you realise you have forgottengrin

Elegran Tue 23-Aug-16 17:01:58

It seems we all are, gracesgran Not a day passes without either someone recounting a story of their shaky memory cells or someone posting what was already said earlier in the thread. Just as well, I suppose, or we would run out of things to discuss!

Gracesgran Tue 23-Aug-16 17:01:26

Shysal do let us know if the article tells us anything new. I wonder if they will put it on-line.

Gracesgran Tue 23-Aug-16 16:58:12

Do you feel you are suffering from age-related memory loss Elegran? How rotten but it does happen. I have had to dash over to Mum's since I last posted - she is rapidly approaching 96 and has Alzheimer's. I changed the batteries in her hearing aids while I was there and, as she always does, she told me how much difference they make. Apparently (today) she lost her hearing because of a bomb going off nearby - that explanation makes her happy so I just say "do you think so Mum". Compared to Alzheimer's I wouldn't let a little age-related memory loss bother you.

shysal Tue 23-Aug-16 15:22:15

2 page spread in the new Radio Times today. Saving it to read later.

merlotgran Tue 23-Aug-16 13:19:28

Ha Ha, suzied. Do you think he applied anywhere else?

merlotgran Tue 23-Aug-16 13:18:06

Well, I'm buggered if I'm going to explain anything. hmm

suzied Tue 23-Aug-16 13:16:12

Felphersham (?) uni is not exactly the dreaming spires. I think it comes bottom of fictional unis league table. So maybe Josh is wise not to get himself in huge debt in order to get a degree from that establishment.

Elegran Tue 23-Aug-16 12:49:52

There are some short memories around, aren't there? It must be age-related.

Gracesgran Tue 23-Aug-16 12:45:45

How can it be unreasonable to discuss whether a story line reflects RL Merlot we have all been doing it all the way with the Rob/Helen story?

Perhaps if you explained what caused you to have your "knuckles wrapped" (I do wonder if someone just disagreed with you) it would be easier to understand what your are objecting to.

merlotgran Tue 23-Aug-16 11:17:35

So is it now OK to compare Archers storylines with real life situations that WE might encounter?

Just wondering because I had my knuckles rapped on more than one occasion on the last thread for doing just that.

Gracesgran Tue 23-Aug-16 10:58:53

You could be right about a plot device merlot but more young people are considering very seriously just what they do after 'A' levels and University per se so maybe we will hear a bit about that too.

Gracesgran Tue 23-Aug-16 10:54:57

Developing the story of Helen and Rob

merlotgran Tue 23-Aug-16 10:22:06

I know exactly how you feel, phoenix angry but please don't leave. You started this light hearted thread and long may it continue.

Who'd have thought that discussing TA would descend into such seriousness the only light relief allowed is a sickly smile

GAH!

merlotgran Tue 23-Aug-16 10:08:22

A mere plot device to keep Josh and the dreadful Toby in yet more tedious episodes about who's doing/not doing enough work.

Yawn!

They want to think themselves lucky their land won't be under Rob's new empire.

Gracesgran Tue 23-Aug-16 09:48:38

I can see some of the thoughts a 'Josh' might have re this year. He will know so much more about what he wants and needs at the end of it.
