Has anyone seen this yet? I am going this evening. I have heard very good reports about it. It is directed by Ken Loach who also did Cathy, come home in the ? 1970s.

Around a third of young people who go to their local authorities are turned away with no help. Thyat's why charities such as Centre Point, Crisis and Shelter are shamefully necessary.

No, it's a statement from a socialist who is sadden that there is nothing which can be done unless there is a Labour government

durhamjen Wed 07-Dec-16 19:21:17

No point in discussing homelessness?
What a sad statement for a socialist to make.

Anniebach Wed 07-Dec-16 19:07:56

didn't read your link Jen .

No point in discussing it,things will not change with this government and as you know, I believe they will be in power for a very long time.

What I am sick of hearing is May talking of affordable housing, she doesn't understand / care people on the minimum wage cannot afford a mortgage for her affordable housing, and many in private lets pay such high rents they cannot afford to save a deposit

durhamjen Wed 07-Dec-16 17:48:57

1100 children homeless in Wales, Annie. Not important enough to discuss?

Anniebach Wed 07-Dec-16 17:35:30

Nothing wrong with it Jen except it cannot be reached

That's what being homeless means for children. Without a place to call home, not without a roof over your head. Being kicked out of the family home, and having to share one room in a B&B with the rest of your family. Unstable and unsafe accommodation, sharing bathroom and kitchen faciliies with other families.

durhamjen Wed 07-Dec-16 17:11:45

Nothing wrong with that, Annie.

Anniebach Wed 07-Dec-16 09:50:08

Jen, with respect you are seeking the end of the rainbow .

durhamjen Tue 06-Dec-16 23:22:55

The programme is on Channel five now.

durhamjen Tue 06-Dec-16 23:19:36

What's your point, Annie? Nobody should be homeless.

Anniebach Tue 06-Dec-16 23:12:52

Are children allowed to be homeless? I mean no roof over their heads? I think not

durhamjen Tue 06-Dec-16 23:06:24

If you really want to cheer yourself up, watch Slum Britain; 50 years on.
It's Shelter following up on a documentary fifty years ago. People who are homeless through no fault of their own, mainly because the system has just changed.
A man going to a food kitchen to have a meal because otherwise he would die, saying that society wouldn't mind because there is no place for people like him in todasy's society.
A family of seven living in one room temporary accommodation. It was supposed to be for three months but they've been there for a year. The father is working, but the benefits changed, and they ended up three months behind with the rent, so were made homeless.

I am ashamed to be British. I am ashamed that the system allows this.

Sigh...

durhamjen Mon 05-Dec-16 12:52:58

Can you give one example of someone dying through being sanctioned when Labour were in power, roses?
Have you seen the film?

rosesarered Mon 05-Dec-16 12:37:06

I agree Lazygirl and although this film is a work of fiction, there will always be these sad cases, and always were under either Labour or Conservative governments.
Partisan politics doesn't make sense therefore.

Unfortunately, Lazigirl, the reason the film was made was because the government doesn't seem to mind about this happening to people.

Lazigirl Fri 18-Nov-16 21:00:27

Please don't squabble over this film. No one of whatever political ideology would want anyone to end up in a similar position to that which Daniel Blake found himself in, through no fault his own, and I feel sad and ashamed that similar scenarios are undoubtedly being played out in many places today, in our affluent country. Yes it's only a film but it does raise awareness.

Jack Monroe wrote about seeing the film and said that 400 people had died after being sanctioned. The DWP said that was not true, it was only 380. What do you think about that, Annie?
