I am a big fan of black and white movies. So anything with the usual suspects, Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Edward G Robinson. Etc.

Recently, I have been introduced to my GDs favourites.

Recently the whole family watched the movie Albert: Up, Up And Away! - I strongly advise to view. You can even view online, for example on putlockers.zone/ - there are a lot of movies in great quality). Albert: Up, Up And Away! Is an animated adventure based on the book by beloved Danish children's writer, Ole Lund Kirkegaard. Full of action and laughs, Albert also teaches children an important lesson on the value of friendship as young Albert goes on an epic quest to become a balloon captain.

I've just carefully combed through this thread again and am amazed that no one has mentioned Mary Poppins.

Most of the films listed I agree with, but there are some awfully sad and brutal ones in there, too.

A really cheering film is Jumping Jack Flash. So many others keep flitting through my mind, but I can't remember them all.

Don't like Hitchcock films. Not because they are scary, but because they aren't. They all seem so amateurish.

Imperfect27 Sun 30-Jul-17 08:23:00

Just remembered a surprise hit with my children was ' Blackbeard's Ghost' - it is when it becomes vital that they add it to their own collection in later years that you realise they valued the memories built around watching it ... and same goes for Muppet's Christmas Carol.

JackyB your post made me realise that my own top choices are all 'feel good' movies. Must say something about me - I do tend to avoid horrors and thrillers.

Eloethan; I saw The Lacemaker on tv many many years ago but I must have loved it because it stuck in my mind. I must see it again. I've just bought The Quiet Man; so NOT CORRECT these days, but I love the locations and I was named after Maureen O'Hara.I'll have a think about my list as I dust the next room [am spring cleaning/decluttering at the moment].
