I am really enjoying "Call The Midwife" - so good to have it to look forward to. Now bring back "Last Tango in Halifax" and make me even happier. grin

Call the Midwife is back on Sunday. I've really missed it. A great Sunday night's tv.

Also looking forward to this on catch up. Didn't realise it was on.

I saw the inside of DH's Grandfather's flat in Clerkenwell in the 70's. DH was born there in 1948 with the help of an Italian midwife. I suspect that conditions there were much worse than when I saw it.

Alima - I thought that, so light and open, a beautiful building.
In 1960 I started teaching in Camberwell, many of the children lived in Peabody Buildings flats. Once state of the art, by then they needed refurbishing. Communal lavatories at the end of balconies, sometimes with broken doors, and only cold water in the kitchens. Cheerful children with resilient parents in the main. I don't think some of us realised just how poor some families were.

How did I miss this???? Catch up tonight then!

Alima Mon 16-Jan-17 09:23:58

Found the programme really interesting. What struck me was the amount of poverty still around around in the 1960s. My family was mostly skint in those days but things were never that bad. Also cannot ever remember seeing the inside of the newer Liverpool Cathedral before. Isn't it beautiful!

It was very good indeed, held the interest and really showed how far we have come in caring for pregnant mums and their newborn child.

I forgot it was on and will also watch it on catch up.

There are several McGann brothers, all actors I think.

I must watch this on catch-up.

Ditto, but was lucky never to have been sick. Enjoyed the programme very much, never realised that Stephen McGann was married to the series writer and creator, and has a science degree.

Same thought, I too was pregnant in '63.

I enjoyed the programme too - my SIL was trained during that period. I often thought myself lucky that they knew about thalidamyde by 1963 when I was pregnant as I was terribly sick with DD - right up to the day she was born.
I thought the idea of a party for all the 'babies' they had used was a lovely one.

Informative and revealing, very much worth watching I thought.
