Strictly's Back

I've just looked at the Strictly line up and wonder if I don't watch enough TV. Who ARE these 'celebrities'? On the picture grid I recognised 3 faces and one extra with a nudge from my OH. I could name only one off the top of my head, but another one because I'd just read about them in an article about Strictly where they were arguing about whether a gay woman should dance with a woman. (She didn't want to; she said she was there to learn to dance, not to make a point about her sexuality, but felt there was pressure on her from the LBTG group.)

Has Strictly outlived its entertainment value?

Like Masterchef, Bake Off, Location, Location, even Antiques Roadshow, and other shows which started so well, I fear they may have morphed into a formulaic caricature of themselves.

I think that the correct person went out tonight.

I have no idea who Aston is but he is a very good dancer and is quite likely to win the competition. I really enjoyed watching him last night.

Did anyone else think that the Rev. Richard`s performance this week was reminiscent of John Sargent`s pasa doble, as re the stomping across the floor?

Anniebach Sun 08-Oct-17 20:37:24

I don't gamble so don't do the lottery Terri, but if? ?

TerriBull Sun 08-Oct-17 20:34:18

Take your pick grin

Anniebach Sun 08-Oct-17 20:14:41

Crystal ball or pendulum Terri? ?

TerriBull Sun 08-Oct-17 19:56:40

It seems I can predict the future grin

Anniebach Sun 08-Oct-17 19:45:54

That's Rev Richard out, means he will be back on his Saturday radio 4 programme, I have missed him

TerriBull Sun 08-Oct-17 19:29:44

I think the dear Rev should go tonight. I also predict that Alexandra and Aston are far better than anyone else thus far and will be in the final 3 right at the end.

It's quite boring at this stage though.

Loved the opening sequence. Colours glorious and cartoon characters. I’m a child at heart I think

Anniebach Sun 08-Oct-17 19:23:46

I am not a fan of the new judge .

Who will go tonight?

whitewave Sun 08-Oct-17 18:27:51

I record it and skip through the boring bits which meant I only saw about 10 mins of the first two weeks. I seem to have gone off it. Watched a bit more last night, but not keen on the new judge. My ancient mother thinks that she marks the young women down and favours the young men. I haven’t given it that much attention.

DanniRae Sun 08-Oct-17 18:08:49

I LOVE "Strictly" but even I was glad when it finished last night - it's just too long and I agree about the bits in between the dances - we don't need 'em!

Jane10 Sun 08-Oct-17 15:53:22

I know who's out btw. I naughtily follow the strictly spoiler tweeter. It's the BBCs fault for trying to pretend the results show is actually filmed the next day.

Blinko Sun 08-Oct-17 15:20:13

I agree. They could cut the length of the programme by at least 20% if they would simply get on with the dancing.

ninathenana Sun 08-Oct-17 15:13:19

Agree with that Jane very contrived and boring

Jane10 Sun 08-Oct-17 15:10:29

They split the initial numbers into two weeks last year (I think). The video bits before each performance are just irritating and unnecessarily time consuming I think.

ninathenana Sun 08-Oct-17 15:07:47

Are there not the same number of contestants at the start of this series as in previous series ?
I assumed Revd. Richard was refered to in this way as a mark of respect. Odd when he's quiet happy to make a prat of himself smile

Jane10 Sun 08-Oct-17 12:58:54

I ended up switching off too Annie! That says a lot.

Anniebach Sun 08-Oct-17 11:03:29

I switched off half way last night, no idea who they are and far too many , it will be on tv until December will it not?

Jane10 Sun 08-Oct-17 10:46:23

I'm a bit fed up of it all. There's just too many people in it, most of them unknown to me. The fun is when you have favourites and start to care about how they get on. I just don't care this series somehow (Brian Conleys always made me laugh though)

Blinko Sat 07-Oct-17 22:03:29

Ah, sorry my earlier post should have referred to Charlotte, not Mollie. Never heard of either of them previously.

DId she jump or was she pushed?
If true, surely you have to be prepared to take criticism and indeed to fail if you take part in something like those?

'Judge' Rinder is not a judge in real life. It's the name of a TV show in which he plays the part of a judge in a dispute between two people. He is quoted as having said 'I am in fact a practising criminal barrister and not a civil law judge.'

callgirl1 Tue 03-Oct-17 21:51:06

It`s like last year, when Judge Rinder got his full title every time.
