Pilgrimage - The Road to Santiago

I've always wanted to walk the Camino, ever since I saw another programme about it many years [that girl that said at Live Aid that she was going to walk around the world]. Didn't want to enjoy the programme but watched it yesterday and loved it. Hasten to add that I'm not at all religious but thought that, if the Heavenly Gates do exist, when I get there and they question the fact that I don't go to church I can say 'but I've been on a pilgrimage'....#hedgeingmybets

I didn't expect to enjoy it but was pleasantly surprised. I am looking forward to the next episode.

I really enjoyed it too. Looking forward to the next episode.

The Goggleboxers who have left to find TV fame are in danger of coming unstuck due to over-exposure. Scarlett Moffatt is definitely a case in point and Rev Kate Bottley is too full of herself.

Steph and Dom seem to be surviving but they're clever at making sure they're the manipulators and not the other way round.

It sounds as though the vicar got the thumbs down from several of us!

Oh Lemongrove just seen your post, glad I'm not alone grin

I really enjoyed the programme, love the scenery and the history. Spain is often shown through the prism of the Costas, and some of Spain's lesser known places come across as unspoiled gems. Looking forward to tuning in again on Friday. I'm probably alone in this, but I find the female vicar quite annoying, I also thought she was given a lot of air time compared to some of the others. Found her irritating on Goggle Box a while back.

I was amazed that the female vicar thought they would not actually have to do the walk properly and that their luggage would be ferried on a van rather than carried on their backs!

And yes, I agree that there was a certain "set-up" to the choice of participants.

Debbie's genuine and dignified grief over her loss was impressive - put the lie to the snide "Mrs Merton" question on her show "So what made you marry the multi-millionaire Paul Daniels?"

I read a book about this pilgrimagae a few years ago, which was very entertaining so I watched the first episode of this.
It’s ok but the book was far better and more informative.
What is amazing is how many people do this pilgrimage ( a few do it without shoes!) also where they come from to do it, the US and China etc.
This may get better in the next episode, I was impressed by
Debbie McGee, and totally unimpressed ( aghast really!) at the vicar.

The scenery is wonderful. I find Neil Morrisey's constant whingeing annoying but then as DH observed, they were probably picked so there would be a stalwart, a moaner, a fit oldie (Debbie) a surprise improver etc., etc.

It's going to be interesting.

I think he is one of the most fascinating characters so far Lucky.

Yes - we both enjoyed it. I know someone who did the pilgrimage.

I confess to having warmed to the non-religious members of the group who had the refreshing quality of not taking themselves too seriously.

And to having been irritated when one woman told the man who had been in prison that his emphasis on hope (which had got him through) was actually to do with god - how dare she take it on herself to interpret his experience - it is his and I was impressed by how he had moved on with the minimum of bitterness for his wrong conviction.

Scenery's great! smile

Has anyone watched this?

It was fascinating to watch the celebrities and their differing views on faith and religion and I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops.
