If so it was made for the tv series Humpty so only about thirty minutes long, not a film for cinema

Not that one Jalima, but sounds good too! I think I must have watched it in the 'Hitchcock Presents' series, if anyone remembers that?

I don't really know, but could it be The Cat and The Canary?

I think it's a different film Annie - but that looks terrifying too - I'll have to watch it but in daylight smile Sorry for the delay, haven't been on GN til now.

Wrong Number fits with the exception of the woman getting out of bed .

Could well be Wrong Number.

Wish humpydumpty would say if the link I put on is the film , I am curious ?

Willow, you have me thinking the women in Hitchcock films,

Sounds like any number of horror/murder films. Why the victims always go into the room/down the stairs beats me - I'd be running out the door screaming my head off!

Interestingly I've just read my GD's media thesis for uni where she is questioning the portrayal of horror film victims as always being fragile feminine females. There are few films where the heroine is a strong female character where she isn't portrayed in a masculine light (Alien for instance). It was something I'd never thought of before but quite insightful now she's highlighted it.

Sorry can't help , but it would give me nightmares! It wasn't Psycho was it, the one with the shower seen?

Thanks Maw but I watched that recently and it isn't! Great film though. This was definitely Hitchcock-esque..

‘Sorry Wrong Number’ but the woman in that film couldn’t get out of bed

Is it Dial M for Murder perhaps?

Following on from the thread asking for help identifying a book, I thought, what a brilliant idea! I have been trying for decades(!) to identify a horror/murder film, black-and-white, which has the scariest scene I've seen: a woman is in an upstairs room and a man is coming after her; someone is on the phone to her trying to get her to lock her door, meanwhile we see the man's feet going silently up the stairs, getting ever closer.. at last she goes to the door and locks it - only to turn around and see the man crouching behind a chair. Ooh just the memory of it still sends shivers down my spine!

Can anyone identify this film - I'd love to watch it again!!
