Shirleyw has just said. I looked in acronyms first, Silly me ?

here we go again :-)

HootyMcOwlface Mon 30-Jul-18 13:41:18

BBbevan please tell, what does hwga mean then?! I thought it was a misprint!

Willow500 Mon 30-Jul-18 13:35:54

I watched the first 10 minutes of the first one and turned it off - I thought it was dire - I'm not a fan of Abba music either which probably didn't help. My friend is obsessed with it and has seen the second one twice already?!! shock

Tanith - how exciting to have a member of your family in a film.

I enjoyed the film when I saw it. It was fun.

oldwoman70 you are so not alone. The songs stand alone and don’t need a weakly woven storyline once let alone twice. I won’t be seeing it but as I work in a cinema (in the office) I hear it twice a day .... thankfully I have gone home by the third showing. But it is bringing in customers even when weather warm which is all good. That though is what it is about - money. If it makes people as happy as those coming out in our cinema - that’s a good thing too. Just not mine.

BlueBelle it looks like the Greatest Showman could be a marmite film. We haven't seen it yet but it's on the list.

We’re off to a Picnic in the Park tribute band concert this weekend - Queen and Abba. Abba songs always give me a lift, even the sad ones. I’ll try to see the film at the cinema, I love easy watching films which don’t tax the brain.

BlueBelle Mon 30-Jul-18 05:16:20

Blinko The Greatest Showman for me was the worst film I have ever seen I was so close to walking out I found it the most boring childish musical I ve ever wasted my money on

BBbevan Mon 30-Jul-18 04:46:02

It has taken me hours to work out 'hwga' ?

cornergran Sun 29-Jul-18 23:01:54

Saw it with friends today. We all enjoyed it, some more than others but isn’t that inevitable? For myself I loved it, good to leave a cinema with a smile in my face.

Yes the music and scenery carried it and I wasn't disappointed in Cher!
Glad I knew about your baby tanith. Beautiful and so well behaved (definitely added a little something for me!)

ContraryMary88 Sun 29-Jul-18 18:36:57

I always hated ABBA ( just the music, they are probably lovely people) and so far have resisted all invitations to watch anything that includes their music.

I can’t be the only one surely?

However my husband dives for the door when I put my music on , so it’s probably just me........

MissAdventure Sun 29-Jul-18 18:34:08

I think the worst part of the first one was seeing Julie Walters looking such a... well, just not how I'd expect her to look!
Anyway, I'm glad so many people did enjoy it.

trisher Sun 29-Jul-18 18:29:05

Oldwoman70 I will join you behind the sofa. The music and the scenery were what sold it, otherwise it was a disaster.

Blinko Sun 29-Jul-18 17:42:58

Back to the OP, to anyone looking for a plot, a word of advice: there isn't one worth the title. Since when have we expected a plot from any musical?

KatyK Sun 29-Jul-18 17:22:12

Blinko Yes I went with DD and DGD to see The Greatest Showman. I didn't think I would like it but I really did. Hugh Jackman was amazing.

Blinko Sun 29-Jul-18 14:29:43

Another film greatly enjoyed by friends and family who have seen it, is The Greatest Showman. Panned by the critics, so bound to be worth a look.

Oldwoman70 Sun 29-Jul-18 11:31:01

Thank goodness there are others who didn't like it (I can come out from behind the sofa now!).

I think it was the music that everyone loved and just concentrated on that and missed the fact it was basically a terrible film (oh dear should I get back behind the sofa?)

KatyK Sun 29-Jul-18 10:44:24

I asked my 17 year old granddaughter if she would like to watch the first one with me. She said yes (although I could see she was just indulging me). She loved it and so did I.
All that sunshine, bright colours and joy. I'm going to see if she wants to go to see the new one.

henetha Sun 29-Jul-18 10:36:48

I thought the plot of the first film was a bit silly, but nothing can take away the sheer joyousness of the music.
I haven't seen the new one yet but definitely am planning to.

aggie Sun 29-Jul-18 10:34:35

I saw the stage show years ago before it was popular , we hadn't booked a show and it was the on!y one available , no stars , no one recognisable , but it was so enjoyable that it gave us such a lift . I saw the film much later and it wasn't nearly as good , but I do hope to see the new one

HootyMcOwlface Sun 29-Jul-18 10:24:10

I think the atmosphere in the (packed) cinema at the first one made the difference Maggiemaybe . There was a group of women at ours whooping and laughing and they really made a good atmosphere. I went again with my daughter to see it again and the crowd was quiet and it didn’t seem so good!

Been to see the second one this week, and I liked it better than the first one. I didn’t stay right to the very end of the credits though, and I’ve since read reviews that there was something I missed! Did anyone see it?!

Parsley3 Sun 29-Jul-18 10:23:46

Simpering ninniness! I love that, Maggie.
