Being advertised on channel 4 as coming soon.

I did the same thing, started watching the last episode on catch up and suddenly thought, why am i watching this, it is depressing and i dont really understand anymore what is going on!!!

Jane43 Mon 24-Jun-19 21:41:58

I think I’m going to give up on this. Last night’s episode was not only dark and depressing but added nothing at all to the story.

travelsafar Mon 24-Jun-19 08:11:36

Carillion I agree, The Durells was a delight to watch every Sunday evening.

Carillion Tue 18-Jun-19 17:20:30

This makes me frightened and depressed in equal measures. It's a terrifying scenario of what might have been but we have enough sadness in our lives so I'll keep hoping for another chance to see the antics of the Durrell family.

Yes I agree that this should be the last series. I do find that, with some exceptions, as the series carry on the quality decreases. I think Line Of Duty is an example of this but an exception is Homeland - we just watched series 7 and found it to be one of the best series so far.

I read the book first, a dark but interesting read, then tried (and failed) to watch the series. Have up after less than half an episode.

travelsafar Tue 18-Jun-19 08:53:29

I am finding it boring but will continue to watch to see what happens.

seacliff Mon 17-Jun-19 20:37:17

Yes I am not sure whether to stay with it. It's the same as Killing Eve, got a new writer and not usually so good.

Lazigirl Mon 17-Jun-19 20:29:08

Yes this darkness, lack of light I mean, seems to be the increasing trend in TV dramas, along with muttered diction. Last night's was particularly annoying. I tend to agree that keeping series going for too long spoils them. Will stick with it for just a couple more episodes to see how it goes.

I enjoyed the series which were true to the book. After that , as with other series we enter someone else's ideas of what should be. This happened with Lark Rise to Candleford, which was a lovely book. I therefore stop watching when the story leaves the original author's writing.

Ilovecheese Mon 17-Jun-19 18:05:32

I find the darkness frustrating as well.
I enjoy (if that is the right word) the parts with June much more than the parts in Canada. I can't really care about Luke and Moira.
Agree this should probably be the last series but American programmes do seem to have many more seasons than ours.

Jane43 Mon 17-Jun-19 15:23:03

It looks as if my previous post was wrong as there was plenty of misery, cruelty, gloom and doom in last night’s episode. I did find the constant darkness frustrating. I can overcome indistinct dialogue by switching on the subtitles but can’t overcome the dark setting.

Jane43 Tue 11-Jun-19 09:46:08

BlueSapphire we get enough misery, cruelty, gloom and doom on the news don’t we? I think/hope series three may be more positive though. I do think they should stop at series three, repeating a winning formula becomes tiresome for the viewer.

BlueSapphire Tue 11-Jun-19 08:02:21

I only watched the first series - decided to give the second a miss as could not stand another helping of misery, cruelty and doom and gloom. So will definitely not be watching the third!

Jane43 Mon 10-Jun-19 17:29:31

I thought it was a promising first episode.

Sar53 Mon 10-Jun-19 16:48:15

I watched it with DD2 and we both thought it was ok and will continue watching. I always feel a little anxious when watching as to what may happen next.

Lazigirl Mon 10-Jun-19 14:55:42

June's baby Nichole was passed to Emily who managed to escape to Canada with her, so at least it starts hopefully grannyticktock. I think this series is quite prescient, as USA seems keen to be following the example of Gilead sad

Calendargirl Mon 10-Jun-19 14:12:38

Watched Gentleman Jack then Handmaid’s Tale on Channel 4+1. TBH couldn’t quite remember all that had gone on last series. I shall keep watching though.

grannyticktock Mon 10-Jun-19 13:55:38

So, how was it? I watched the first two series, but was getting tired of the endless jeopardy and disappointments, not to mention the relentless cruelty and injustice. I missed it this time because I'm watching Gentleman Jack, but can't decide whether to give the Handmaid another try or not. If it's just another weekly hour of misery, I'll give it a miss.

Me too Lazigirl 45 minutesshockwhat a let down. Mr. S. will be in another room when the Handmaid's Tale is on, he hates it. I can't waitgrin.

Lazigirl Sun 09-Jun-19 19:09:32

Am looking forward to this tonight, after being disappointed with Killing Eve yesterday.

Jane43 Wed 29-May-19 20:28:50

It starts on June 9th.

Sara65 Tue 28-May-19 20:50:27

Not long since the last one

seacliff Tue 28-May-19 20:49:09

Thanks Jane, will look forward to that.

EllanVannin Tue 28-May-19 20:27:10

I'm on channel 9 at the moment seeing real poverty in India. Poor people and beautiful children.
