Boring isn't it so far?

It's all about kids. Yawn.

ginny Fri 15-Nov-19 22:39:19

Well said SirChenjin.

I watched the documentary about celebs making an album of covers of various songs a week or so ago.

It was David Tennant singing the Proclaimers' 'Sunshine on Leith' that gave me goosebumps.

Jodie Whittaker is pretty good as well.

It’s a brilliant album merlot, I’ve got it on iTunes and it’s well worth a listen

Little Julio should be a TV presenter!! grin

I was speaking to someone yesterday about Children in Need. She told me that they pay more per member of staff than any other childrens charity (including those who have specialist staff). Bearing in mind their CEO has stated all they do is collect and distribute money, how do they justify that?

She also told me that a Freedom of Information request regarding staffing costs was refused by the BBC.

Hope some of the money will find it's way to the north where many children will have had their possessions damaged, lost or broken during the recent floods. There will be many children in need this year. We see so much about period poverty, food banks, 'cos children are going hungry, especially during school holidays, and many of our children are suffering with MH issues, their care when this happens all needs to be funded. It would be lovely to see some of the money going to these good causes.

merlot, I agree!

SirChenjin

You are absolutely right, I watched some of it, and it’s probably not my idea of entertainment, but you are right, that isn’t the point.

One of my grandaughters participated in school events, and had an email saying
Thankyou xxxxx you have changed some children’s lives today.
Obviously just a generic email, but it made her feel proud, and aware of what she has, that others don’t.

Sad to see such unnecessary sourness about raising almost £48million pounds for UK children's charities.

I found the programme very moving.

Sircharjin I agree, I don't watch it all as find some of it very emotional and upsetting. Well done to everyone for the amount of money that they raise.

Lilypops Sat 16-Nov-19 08:29:07

The Rickshaw challenge got our donation this year, those kids were amazing and kept going in all that cold rain, Matt Baker comes across as a very caring man , he doesn't have to do it ,
It looked a very gruelling task , Well done all who took part

Given the number of charities how on earth can someone check what every staff member of every charity earn ?

I watch Children In Need because of the children and parents who openly talk of their difficulties. I don’t watch it all in one evening but record it and watch through out the week, i don’t want to shut my ears to those children .

EllanVannin Sat 16-Nov-19 08:43:24

I haven't stopped thinking about the 22,250 teens and young people who are homeless. I hope there's help for them poor things. What sort of a Christmas will they have, or have ever had ?
One young man had lost a parent at 17 and was put out of the council house. What are they supposed to do ? Having lost a parent is bad enough without losing your home as well.

Local councils should have a back-up scheme for when this sort of thing happens. There should be something in place. It's heartbreaking and not a child's fault.

NfkDumpling Sat 16-Nov-19 08:45:53

I can’t watch it as I can’t cope with the guilt. Why am I alive and more or less well when they’re in such dire straights? By the end of the evening I feel I should sell up and live in a tent. But then, should I give everything to Children in Need? What about all the others?

I admire the idea behind it and applause what they do to make those who never put a hand in a pocket for charity do something and maybe help more in the future. But don’t ask me to watch it!

EllanVannin Sat 16-Nov-19 08:50:52

There are some brave people out there which puts millions of others lives in perspective. I couldn't cope with a lot of what some of those parents do. God bless them all that's all I can say.

DanniRae Sat 16-Nov-19 08:56:57

I record it because I have to fast forward the sad bits - I always give a donation though.
I can't believe that posters are being negative about it - don't watch it if you don't like it - but how can you be cynical about a charity event that does so much for disadvantaged children?

grannylyn65 Sat 16-Nov-19 09:01:28

How sad that there are Children in Need with such anti helpful posters

grannylyn65 Sat 16-Nov-19 09:02:01

Bite me

MawB Sat 16-Nov-19 09:23:47

Little Julio is a star in his own right!
I only that little section with Graham Norton but I am still smiling.
And to all who carp about charity workers’ salaries or celebrities getting more publicity, the bottom line is that children and young people are getting much needed support
It may be that the same critics are the ones moaning when Comic Relief comes round that “charity should begin at home”
Just ???, be grateful for small mercies and put your hand in your pocket.

Anniebach Sat 16-Nov-19 09:25:34

Well said Maw

Callistemon Sat 16-Nov-19 09:31:14

mardy grin
How many on here know what that means? (I do)

As a family we have donated quite a lot and the DGC have enjoyed doing their bit and yes, the children featured are so courageous and the young carers selfless and inspirational.

But I didn't have to watch it, did I?
Please say no.

Callistemon Sat 16-Nov-19 09:32:55

I have watched some of their stories in the lead-up to this and was so impressed by their determination in the case of such difficulties.

Callistemon Sat 16-Nov-19 09:33:50

Face not case
Auto-correct knows best.

Hetty58 Sat 16-Nov-19 09:40:01

It's reached overkill proportions so I'm afraid that I changed channels for most of it! I'm sticking to regular giving to WaterAid and GiveDirectly myself.

timetogo2016 Sat 16-Nov-19 09:42:01

Same as smilesless2012.
