This is such a feel-good film. It is about a Pakistani boy living with his family in Luton in 1980s Thatcher Britain. He is an aspiring writer and is introduced to the music of Bruce Springsteen at college by a young Sikh boy who becomes his lifelong friend. It is based on a true story and has the added bonus of the music of Bruce Springsteen.

I love this film. I could watch it over and over smile

Really good film, saw it a while back and Bruce Springsteen's music sounds as good now as it did when it was first released. The baby faced, neighbour friend of the the young Pakistani boy turned up looking quite different as one of the two main leads in the recent 1917 film.

Thanks for the heads up! We need lots of recommendations for good films at the moment, don't we?!

Yes I saw it ages ago at the cinema.really good.

Saw it at the cinema and didn't enjoy it much, found it very formulaic. Springsteen's music however is really standing the test of time. Probably worth watching just for the soundtrack if you're a fan!

oh is it on for free - I paid recently to go and see it, but had already seen it and went to keep a friend company, who is from Luton
It's good to remember that it is a true story based on the author's memoirs of what it was like in Luton and is based on what happened, I knew Luton in those times too [obviously it is made t so that the basic storyline fits into the time available
I live in a predominantly white area and when some of the vile racism bits came on, most people groaned and were visibly shocked but I know that's what happened
If as well as them having enjoyed the film they came out with better understanding of what our immigrant neighbours suffered in the past and continue to suffer albeit that much of the obvious racism is no longer acceptable, then they will think about their attitudes to race and immigration

Thank you Jane3
We have just watch Blinded by the light and throughly enjoyed it.

We were transported back to the 1980s.
Lovely story and great music.
For almost 2 hours we were able to forget the fear and uncertainty of 2020.

Glad most of you enjoyed the film, it was nice to watch something without four letter words in every sentence. We lived in North Bedfordshire in the 1980s and I taught in a college in Bedford so it brought back memories, good and bad.
