I agree oldgimmer - the sets and scenes in Wolf Hall are wonderful, and there is a constant feeling of unease generated that someone will say the wrong thing, that the King will get an idea in his head and that life is always on the edge.

Apparently Hilary Mantel kept a great deal of control over the production of WH, and I think it shows in that it is so close to the book.

As you say, can't wait for the dramatisation of M & L.

sparkle I found the same. I don't know if it's Mantel's writing style or what, but nothing else compares.

I read Tracy Norman's biog of Cromwell afterwards which was interesting and pretty close to Mantel's version of his life.

What I particularly liked about WH was the effort made by the makers to create a sense of place. Very absorbing.

Can't wait for the dramatisation of M and L.

Lully Since reading The Mirror & The Light, it was so good that I have had difficulty settling to any other book. No other writing seems to come up to scratch.

I finished The Mirror and the Light yesterday. Now what can I read ? Won't spoil the ending.!!!!!

Same with me. I am watching and enjoying it for the second time. I too have The Mirror and the Light, waiting on the book shelves.

I'm rewatching Wolf Hall too on iPlayer.

I've read the books twice but some time ago. I've just been given The Mirror and the Light. I thought I'd leave it until I've watched Wolf Hall again so I am back in Tudor mode and it doesn't take too long to get back into it

Currently listening to The Mirror and the Light on my tablet. Radio4 are playing it in their drama section.

Started watching Wolf Hall on iPlayer. I saw it when it was first on, have also read the books twice, but wow! It's still as enjoyable as before, and Mark Rylance is a joy to watch. He has such an expressive face. Loving it. smile

It worries me that I am reading 'The Mirror and the Light' and finding it light relief after reading some of the comments on Gransnet.

Thanks for that; mind you, it does worry me that I find things like Wolf Hall a bit of light relief after a day watching the news..confused…[ditto Killing Eve....]

I managed to stay awake to watch the first two episodes last night but not sure if I can do it again.

It will probably be iPlayer for me as well.

I've just spotted that Wolf Hall is being shown on BBC 4. It's a bit late for me but I see it's available on iPlayer. Hooray!
