Yes it is slow (Except when his brakes fail going down a steep hill!) but as you say grannyactivist that is the appeal to some people. My DH usually likes action films but he enjoyed it and wiped a tear away at the end. It reminded me a bit of ‘The World's Fastest Indian‘ starring Anthony Hopkins, another film we both loved. Two things surprised me about the film: one that it was directed by David Lynch and two that it was a true story.

I absolutely loved this film and would happily watch it again, but I can't say the same for my husband who thought it was the slowest film ever. It almost is, but therein lies the beauty of it.

Thanks for that Jane43. I dragged my late DH to see this film when it was released and as you say it really was a really good film and I must say he enjoyed it as much as I did. I did watched for it coming on TV but don't think it has been ever been on. Just checked to see when it was released and it was 1999 - can't believe it was that long ago - and am so looking forward to seeing it again.

My sister-in-law told me about this film a few years ago. An old man hears his brother has had a stroke and decides to visit him to repair their broken relationship. The trouble is his eyesight is so poor he can’t drive so he decides to go on his sit on lawn mower. He has a few adventures on his journey and we learn about his daughter (played by Sissy Spacek) and his experiences in the war. It is a touching and uncomplicated story. It is on All4 the Channel 4 app under the ‘Film‘ category.
