All the soaps seem to think that to portray life they have to always go for high drama.
Yes, they need a plotline that contains dramatic acts now and then but not a relentless stream of murder, beatings, adultery,cruelty, etc etc.
Coronation St and The Archers ( both staples for my mother in the mid to late 1960’s) were based more on family life and the kindness of neighbours, with now and then a death or two
( usually natural/accidental) a bit of greed/envy and so on.
From what I have noticed, things haven’t changed for the better even allowing for modern life being more addicted to dramatic happenings.
Emmerdale Farm was another of my mother’s favourites....goodness knows what that’s like now.??
