Right, that's enough! Make it STOP!

All the soaps seem to think that to portray life they have to always go for high drama.
Yes, they need a plotline that contains dramatic acts now and then but not a relentless stream of murder, beatings, adultery, cruelty, etc etc.
Coronation St and The Archers ( both staples for my mother in the mid to late 1960’s) were based more on family life and the kindness of neighbours, with now and then a death or two
( usually natural/accidental) a bit of greed/envy and so on.
From what I have noticed, things haven’t changed for the better even allowing for modern life being more addicted to dramatic happenings.
Emmerdale Farm was another of my mother’s favourites....goodness knows what that’s like now.??

Yes it’s dreadful. You’d think radio was one medium where it would be quite straightforward to do distancing. Corrie has now got social distancing in the script and are ( just about) managing. The nurse is isolating and speaking on face time to her family. No I’ve given up on Ambridge. How many radio stations would employ Soosan anyway?

It would be better to pull it than carry on like it is.

why don't they just give it a rest.
it is rather dreary anyway. like a kind of habit that drags one down. and such outlandish story-lines.
what next, the one-legged lesbian gypsy who has a crisis of identity and runs off with brian ?, before limping back,
then sees the error of her ways, and goes to live as a hermit, communing with the moon, while spurning kate's ideas of monetising lunar devotions.

Quite agree (see other thread on this subject) and cannot
understand why the BBC haven’t announced its return unless, please God no, the ghastly monologues are here to stay.

I gave up on it a very long time ago. For decades 7pm was my listen-in time - now 7 passes and I barely notice it.

I do think that it is pathetic - surely the BEEB have the technology to conjure up a bit of dialogue - it's not as if it is going out live.

I don't watch any T.V. soaps, but have been a long time listener to The Archers.

We usually have Radio 4 on all day, don't tend to watch t.v until after 7.30pm.

Do switch to Radio 4 Extra when programmes are repeated (Gardeners Question time is R 4 at 3pm Friday, then repeated in Sunday for example)

I don't watch now. Corrie is managing very well with distancing.

I don't know lemon. TA is my only soap these days. I never did Eastenders and stopped Corrie several years ago when they had another 12 or 13 year old girl pregnant and giving birth alone in an empty property. Yes I know these things happen but I preferred Corrie when it had humour and pathos amongst the drama.

Hasn’t this happened with all soaps though, both radio and tv ones?I never watch or listen to them, but when I catch a trailer for one, often think it looks appalling, especially for EastEnders.

phoenix, I with you. The Archers was my one remaining Soap. I've listened since the late 60's . The only consolation is that I've had other periods when I stopped listening but I always returned.
I stopped listening soon after the monologues started. Grim grim grim.
Here we are in (almost) lockdown, deprived of TA. It isn't fair!!!

Chewbacca Thu 30-Jul-20 19:50:19

I gave up on it weeks ago and I can't see me going back and trying again. Think I'm done with TA.

phoenix Thu 30-Jul-20 19:45:50

I can put with some aspects of the new normal but this excuse for The Archers is a step too far!

Yes, it was tolerable at first, but no more!

Chewbacca Thu 30-Jul-20 19:22:26

This is the new normal...... dreadful as it is.

phoenix Thu 30-Jul-20 19:21:16

Hello all, usual good wishes.

The Archers! I've had enough of the damn dreary monologues!

When will it go back to normal?
