Journey into Space Radio 4EX

Oh gosh! The Red Planet! I was always glued to the radio when that came on! Lemmie, Doc, and Captain Jet Morgan! I’ll have to tune in again soon.

Did not realise that was being repeated. Such wonderful memories 'Order must be obeyed.....'. I can remember how the streets would totally empty of children when this was broadcast. Must listen - good nostalgia of times long gone.

Loved it!, but...correction. First broadcast in 1953, which fits in perfectly with my memory of drinking cocoa and listening to this before bed I was born in '44.

Oh how I loved Journey Into Space! For some reason I used to listen to it sitting under the dining table. I used to sit there for Dick Barton Special Agent as well.

Oh yes, Dick Barton Special Agent. Loved that as well! I used to sit under the table, which was always covered with some fancy fringed cloth, as well. I was a strange child!

Brother and I were carried away when this programme was on the radio. That and Dick Barton.

I was going to reply to your comment about it on another thread travelsafar but forgot to. I did listen to it that night, though. Does anyone remember the Pathfinder series on tv? I’ve got it on dvd and loved being able to watch it again after so many years. It was made to educate children and paved the way to programmes like Dr Who. One of my fondest childhood memories.

Heavens, Journey Into Space! With Guy Kingsley Pointer as Doc and Andrew Faulds as Jet Morgan!! 1953 fits with my recollection; mum, dad, granny and me, huddled round the radio with shivers down our spines. My dear granny always used to say "They shouldn't put this on, frightening people like that" but she still listened to every episode.

Was this before the Paul Temple era? I can't remember when that started, but again it was a must-listen serial.

Paul Temple ran, I think, from the thirties today the sixties. I especially loved the signature tune, Coronation Scot! Still a great favourite!

I loved Journey Into Space. I listened to it during the mid fifties when I was 8/9. I remember having a crush on Jet Morgan and was thrilled when a picture of Andrew Faulds appeared on the cover of the Radio Times and he was the hunk I imagined.

Does anyone remember the playground skipping rhyme about Dick Barton and his sidekicks?

It was on every night at a quarter to seven, I was heartbroken when it was taken off in favour of the Archers.

The Red Planet is very clear, very red and very low in the eastern sky tonight. Couldn’t see Lemmy, Doc or Captain Jet though!

So it is. It looked huge when I was walking the dog but it wasn’t very dark then. I’ve just been out to see it now and it actually looks like two red dots in the sky: do you think there’s a problem with my eyes? Very odd.
