iPlayer gone!

Anyone else with a Samsung tv lost iPlayer? I’m really annoyed as I often watch things on catchup. It may be possible to update on some TVs but I’ve just tried and my tv says software update is not available. ???

I had problems with my Samsung this time last year and lost iPlayer. They weren’t updating it - company decision. I’ll not buy Samsung again. Also lost all ITV and Channel 4 two months later. They changed out TV mast!

Solution for me was to buy an Am***n Fire stick. I now use TV as a monitor except for some Freeview stuff.

Yet another ploy to ‘encourage’ excess consumption of consumer goods. When the TV and stick stop working, I’ll just use the apps on my iPad.

I had a Samsung and lost i player and other things. I replaced my tv as it was a bit old and definitely didn't go for Samsung.

Got it on my Samsung iPad.

Thanks everyone I figured out how to mirror to the tv from my phone so I can still watch. Apparently it’s something to do with a licence and they are fixing it, the tv isn’t very old 3 yrs at most.

It disappeared from our expensive Sony t.v a while back. I really miss it ☹️

Me too, @morethan2 , but I got an Amazon Firestick and am very pleased with it. As well as iPlayer there are lots of other offerings. Simple to install, reliable and no outlay after the initial purchase. (No, I don't work for them!)

IPlayer packed up on our Samsung last year (just out of warrenty). We had to have a new part - cost £100 angry

It's ok now.

We bought a Panasonic 5 years ago, which had all the iplayers. Now we just have BBC channels. We’ve bought a firestick, but it did annoy us. It’s because they up grade the hardware according to my husband, and it no longer works. Isn’t right though, when you’ve bought a TV which specifically does something, and then it’s taken away.

If it’s a smart TV you should be able to update it - this happened to ourSamsung but by googling etc we found a way of getting into settings and upgrading it. All the apps returned.

We bought a JVC tv recently that had iPlayer but we then found out we have to have an Amazon account to use it and we really don’t like Amazon so we’re just using it to watch what’s on now and using iPads for catchup. Had no idea when we bought it that it was involved with Amazon.

There are other alternatives to fire sticks. Mine is working fine just now but in the future I’ll find something else as I’m not keen on Amazon either.

Weirdly it’s working fine again this morning when I’ve checked.

I find Amazon very big brother’ish. I wish I didn’t need to use them at all but it’s very difficult when needing to avoid shops as much as possible.
