She had sent a photograph, it seems it didn’t look very healthy. At first I though the panel a little harsh but it was all lighthearted. They often tease each other about loved and hated plants - as I see phoenix has just said above!

For a few minutes I thought they were being unkind about my family - Paw Broon , Granpaw, Daphne, Maggie, our Wullie, Horace, Hen, Joe, the ae twin, the ither, the bairn and me!

I think it was done tongue in cheek, light hearted etc.

They often do that!

Broom is fine out in the wild. Glasgow has a Broomhill, where my favourite breakfast café is, and there's one in Bristol. Probably others too. I think its been a good while since broom grew in the Glasgow one.

The problem with broom in the garden is that it gets out of hand very easily. I didn't hear GQT so I don't know any more details but I can imagine that keeping it well-behaved is the issue.

They often do that, it is part and parcel of the show, it is clearly done in fun. I cannot say that I would be particularly bothered if I asked a question and they made fun of the shrub. They do it so often, anyone asking questions know tat that kind of thing can happen. I do not think the woman involved would have been much bothered.

With any series like this, you cannot judge anything on it just be listening to one problem. Listen regularly and you fit into the swing of the programme and understand events like this. It is as if I saw one episode of Coronation Street and then proceded to reach judgment on it.

I have just dug up my broom and chucked it !

I wonder who was on the the panel?
I went to a recording many years but they couldn't answer my question, at least they tried but no-one gave a satisfactory answer.

It was quite good fun though.

Plants go out of fashion. Maybe these 'experts' don't know anything about the shrub and were covering up their lack of knowledge.

Or maybe they are just arrogant know-it-alls the BBC seem to love that sort of panelist/reporter.

Broom is a pretty shrub.

Some Brooms are very pretty. How bizarre of them.

Yesterday afternoon, not liking the show on Radio2, I re-tuned my car radio to BBC radio 4 during Gardeners Question Time.

A listener had written in to the panel about a Broom shrub in her garden asking advice on how to best care for it. The panel were extremely rude about it - one of them condemned that particular plant saying it was not even good enough to grace the gardens of a supermarket car park. I cannot imagine how the poor lady felt, listening to the, supposedly professional gardeners, condeming and critising her for her choice of shrub. Shame on the BBC!
