That’s what I thought, and I really wanted to like it too.

When I saw it at the cinema I felt it was the sort of film I’d enjoy on the tv but wasn’t worth a trip to the cinema. I think I’m a bit of a Dickens purist.

I meant to see this reworking of David Copperfield on the big screen but somehow or other missed it, I wish I had seen it at the cinema. I've only just watched it on Prime, sadly it's leaving that site tomorrow. Loved it brilliant! Had to comment even though I see this is a pretty old thread!

Finally caught up with this last night - definitely not for us, in spite of the excellent cast and the undoubted charm of Dev Patel's central performance.. DH said "too fey" and I agree.

I enjoyed it but spent most of the time working out which bits were missing.

I watched this last night and it was an amusing romp, but I hope no youngsters watching it will think it bears much resemblance to Dickens’ original.

Yes jane I read Great Expectations yet again a few years ago. A wonderful story.

What a great film and funny too! Daisy May took a good part. I’d recommend it for anyone needing cheering up.

Yes Dickens’ novels are a wonderful read, Great Expectations is my favourite.

Saw it at the cinema too, and loved it. We bought it on DVD so that we can watch it again (and again and...). Because of seeing it I re-read the book, and loved it too. I'd forgotten that it was so funny.

I saw it at the cinema too, very entertaining with a wonderful cast, from memory Dev Patel, Peter Capaldi, Tilda Swinton and Daisy May Cooper were great. I think I’ll watch it again.

I loved the young Daniel Radcliffe when he was about 10/11 years old. Dickens wrote such great stories.

I’m going to watch it today. I’m off work with lower back pain today. It might cheer me up. Ouch!!

I saw it at the cinema, too, back in March, just before lock down when I ws in the UK for a few days. Makes me smile remembering it even now!

I watched 10 minutes of it on Prime this afternoon, hated it and gave up.

I agree travelsafar, it's delightful, bonkers and I loved it as well.
