Anyone see Cliff being interviewed by Piers? I thought he came across very well and is a lovely man. I think the false sex allegation against him has really taken its toll on him though. What a terrible thing to have happened to him after such a long music career without a whiff of scandal prior to this. Surely these people who make false accusations should be named and shamed and given a custodial sentence. It's hard to believe that Cliff is 80 years old. He only looks about 50. I do think however that he's too thin and why was he wearing his tie undone? Either do it up or don't wear one at all! Apart from that long may he continue to keep us entertained.

It was a fleeting comment from Piers when he said to cliff you share your home and life with John mcelynn an ex priest.

Personally, I don't give a damn what his sexual orientation is, so long as every one involved is legally consenting. But there's something about him that I just don't like, but I can't quite put my finger on what it is. I think there's a lot hidden behind his public persona.

Callistemon Tue 27-Oct-20 15:39:27

He's had several romantic relationships with women, the first one being an affair with Jet Harris's wife. How far the other relationships went remains between himself and the women involved. They all seem to remain loyal and tight lipped about it.

Not marrying doesn't mean that a person is gay or bisexual. Some people are naturally asexual; perhaps he tried to show that he was interested in girls to enhance his appeal but found if difficult to maintain a relationship.

Whatever the reasons, he's still here at 80, unlike many of his contemporaries.

I didn't watch it because I can't stand Piers Morgan, although I did watch him interviewing Alan Sugar.

He hasn't really got enough of a personality for me to like or dislike...?

annsixty Tue 27-Oct-20 12:56:35

Never liked him when he was young and nothing has made me change my opinion.
Many years ago I heard him being interviewed on a radio show.
He was so sneering and sarcastic about Marty Wilde , putting him down, I was quite shocked.

crazyH Tue 27-Oct-20 12:06:47

I think he meant to say 30% of 'my income'

Nannan2 Tue 27-Oct-20 12:02:38

And hes NOT been too bad a singer.stupid phones got its own mind?

Nannan2 Tue 27-Oct-20 12:01:27

Lol.meant HAVE NEVER been a fan.??

Nannan2 Tue 27-Oct-20 12:00:30

I didnt bother watching it as i felt there would be nothing more to 'learn' about Cliff like we have with other celebs on here. And yes he does seem very bland to a point of 'boringness' i suppose he has been taken over by the whole image that no doubt his management created for him at the beginning of his career. And perhaps he saw no real reason to change this.Maybe its less hassle to forego marriage, family etc. than struggling with keeping all your private life, well, private. He's not been a bad singer but ive been a fan really.

I've never been a fan of Cliff's music or his public persona. If he wants to keep quiet about his sexuality I think that's his business.

What I never understand, particularly these days is why he doesn't embrace his Indian ancestry. Always claims to be of British colonial stock. It's quite obvious looking at pictures of him as a child/young man and pictures of his late mother that they have Indian blood. I think over the years various distant relatives have confirmed this.

Poor old Cliff. I was a bit of a fan when younger. He doesn't seem very happy to me but I hope he is really.

I think he finds getting older and losing his looks very hard. He might be the same weight as he was back in 1962, but he now looks thin instead of slim, the face is lined, thinning, unnatural coloured hair, scraggy neck.

Hope he doesn’t read this!

PECS Tue 27-Oct-20 11:43:52

By his own admission he chose public fame over personal happiness....

If he is gay he will have struggled with his evangelical Christian faith. He may have chosen celibacy once he found his faith.
I understand why he was very angry at the police /BBC re the sexual abuse allegations but found his need for a very public retribution as unpleasant as the filming of his property as the police searched it.

lemsip

I am tired of Gloria Hunniford turning up to defend him every time he appears anywhere.

??

Nana wind, I agree that he comes across as absolutely self centred but perhaps it was a good excuse to get rid of her without saying he was gay.

I agree. I also found him incredibly full of himself. If he could ditch his then girlfriend in case he lost 30% of his fans he was hardly likely to come out as gay (imo) in case that damaged his career further.

Yes Nanawind - when I heard that, it put me right off him - selfish, self centred man ....

GagaJo Mon 26-Oct-20 14:44:43

Never liked him. I find him creepy. Nothing to do with the allegations.

In my opinion (which is only that and not at all important, or probably accurate) he is gay and has spent so long covering it up and even trying to deny it to himself, that his facade has hardened and he couldn't break through it now even if he wanted to.

Ohmother Mon 26-Oct-20 14:34:21

I didn’t watch it. Beige is how I would describe the facade that is Cliff Richard.

Nanawind Mon 26-Oct-20 13:25:54

I think Cliff came across as a very selfish person. When told by his management that he could lose fans if he got married
boom he dumped the girlfriend.

PECS Mon 26-Oct-20 13:18:40

I liked Cliff when I was 12 or so and saw Summer Holiday but it always feels to me that he is very stuck in that jolly and faux innocent era! I moved on!
Bland is a good description of him...though he has made a good life for himself out of his blandness! I think the fact that he does seem to have led an almost secretive life..some say private... made people speculate about him. I have read speculations in the media that he is asexual /homosexual/heterosexual ..none of it my business. When I see him on TV I cannot 'warm' to him and wonder if the Cliff Richard persona has actually taken him over and he has lost Harry Webb completely?

Whingingmom Mon 26-Oct-20 13:16:49

I agree with Calendar Girl, he does give the impression of being rather sexless, and rather manufactured. And if you consider accumulating a lot of wealth as a definition of success, then he has been successful in his career.

merlotgran Mon 26-Oct-20 13:16:34

I suppose the one person who knows more about Cliff's sexuality than anyone is Sue Barker.

She has always remained tight lipped but a few years ago I read that she had turned down an appearance on a chat show because, 'They'll only want to ask me about bloody Cliff!'
