The Crown......again!

I've started watching the latest series and have just seen episode 4.
Episode 3 featured Charles and Diana on tour and in one scene they attended a "dinner". Charles was standing to the fore giving a speech and Diana was seated slightly to right of scene...........with her legs crossed! Correct me if I'm wrong but the Royals do not do this do they?
Also, in episode 4, the Queen summoned all four of her children individually to a private lunch meeting. In one scene the Queen and Andrew were eating poached salmon........using ordinary cutlery. Surely they would have used fish knives?
This might all sound rather trivial to many of you but if a media company goes to all the trouble of producing a drama series on the Royal Family they might at least get the finer details correct!

Jane10 I haven’t got it in for Diana, I defend Camilla because
of the lies so many choose to believe .

If an open secret why didn’t Sarah Spencer tell her sister ?

Ok then if you haven’t got it in for her let’s hear one positive thing about Diana ?

“ Camilla married Parker Bowles because she really loved him not because she couldn’t marry Charles.”
How on earth do you know this ??

fish knives were considered very non-U, along with napkin rings.
apparently posh people use two forks for delicate fish.
as to the rest, it does seem odd to be able to make an entertainment film series about real people, most of whom are still living. i think there should be a disclaimer on each episode that though it broadly follows main historic events, much of the detail, conversations, are creative inventions. that seems only fair. much of it is bound to be conjecture.

No one can ever see inside someone else’s marriage. Even (from my own experience) the people in it can’t always make sense of it, either. Must be even worse when it’s in full view of the whole world.

Sparkle why blame Camilla ?

Is this addressed to me Annie? I am not blaming only Camilla, although you always blame only Diana. It was a total mess and a perfect storm waiting to happen.

Mr Parker Bowles was playing the field though that’s ok

Anniebach Mon 30-Nov-20 17:28:29

Atqui I think it was hell for all concerned and feel sorrow for them all.

But I really think so many lies have been said about ‘the open
secret’ , never known the press silent when there is an open
secret doing the rounds.

Camilla married Parker Bowles because she really loved him not because she couldn’t marry Charles.

Atqui Mon 30-Nov-20 17:11:48

“HKLP” Haven’t heard that one.
Isn’t it said that Charles didn’t rekindle his affair until he’d been married for 4 years? ( oh that’s all right then). The marriage must have been hell for both of them

Anniebach Mon 30-Nov-20 16:50:39

Jane10 you think she may have told her sister but her sister
didn’t care ?

Perhaps she did tell but being Princess of Wales was worth more to her sister

Jane10 Mon 30-Nov-20 16:48:34

Also what lies are you talking about and how do you know they are lies?

Jane10 Mon 30-Nov-20 16:47:36

Anniebach- how do you know she didn't tell her sister?

Alegrias2 Mon 30-Nov-20 16:45:12

Lots of pictures out there of Diana with her legs crossed, it appears that's OK for a Royal. Unless your name is Meghan, of course....

Some people always blame the women and let the men off the hook.

Jane10 Mon 30-Nov-20 16:37:42

Anniebach- why have you got it in for Diana? The situation was messy. She walked into it an innocent and had a rotten time. Obviously, there was a more sophisticated set all busily having affairs round about her. Charles and Camilla seem to have been pretty much an open secret.

Poor Mrs Manakee, poor Mrs. Hoare, poor Mrs. Carling

What about MR Manakee, MR Hoare and MR Carling? They had minds of their own. They weren't bewitched. Why blame only the woman?

Anniebach Mon 30-Nov-20 16:32:49

Jane10 if true about Charles why can the same not be said
for Camilla who was married to a philanderer?

If this affair between Charles and Camilla had been going on for years how come Sarah Spencer didn’t know when she was with Charles, if she did why didn’t she tell her sister when she
introduced her to Charles ?

What about poor Tiggy ? Diana lied about her

Lucca Mon 30-Nov-20 16:21:31

Jane10

*Anniebach*- Diana didn't start out needing validation or looking for affection wherever she could find it. She thought she would be loved by her husband. Poor girl, she was wrong.

I think you are right.

Why Anniebach? Why have you such a dislike of Diana? She may well have had flirtations or even affairs but she was undoubtedly let down by Prince Charles. She wasn’t a saint but not as bad as you make out.

I really loathed Camilla for a long time because I was so fond of Diana. I’ve recently been thinking how awful it must have been for Charles and Camilla not being allowed to marry but obviously being soul mates. DD, who watches The Crown said to me recently she thought it would be difficult for Charles to become king now that so many people hate him after watching the series. I can’t watch it anyway because I don’t subscribe to the network, but I don’t really want to anyway. I feel sorry for William and Harry.

Dreams or ambitions , a 19 years old can have both.

Meaning ?
“Poor woman”. .? Camilla ? As they say in east Enders “ leave it out”

Jane10 Mon 30-Nov-20 15:32:03

HKLP = holds knife like pen! Very non U. That won't mean anything to younger Grans but was a talking point at one time.
