Has anyone been watching the repeat of the 2019 programmes on the search for The Ripper? Quite a culture shock. The time it took to persuade the police that he wasn't just after prostitutes and that the "decent" women hadn't been mistakes on his part. The evidence of women who had been attacked was disregarded if it didn't fit the narrative and they were generally treated as an inferior species. So many women would have been saved if the police had listened to what they were being told.

I think that comes from the same place as “she was asking for it”. There still seems to be a perception that some victims are less worthy than others. I didn’t watch it myself but I remember the events well.
