No. I thought that, too.

Sorry to keep harping on about her name, but in the book, her boyfriend Con often referred to her as ‘Clo’, so obviously Clodagh was her own name.

I don’t think ‘Catherine’ was ever referred to in the book or film, so why they put that in I don’t know.

This ‘Mr. Dean’ was more fanciable than the original ‘Mr. Dean’, but he was dark and quite handsome in his own way.

To begin with I preferred the old film with Jean Simmons dancing , and a sexier actor playing Mr Dean.

Last night's episode brought home to me the rational basis of sister Ruth's paranoia, and also the sort of pride that weakened the character of the "Superior Sister". I particularly liked her confession to Mr Dean about how she was motivated by having too much pride to be the same as the village girls with their shabby love lives.

Strange twist that Sister Clodagh would go on to being a better nun after her run-in with her own pridefulness.

I don't mind heights. Many's the time I've swapped someone for a window seat on a plane as they haven't liked sitting there.
They missed out on two world heritages ! One was the tip of Everest and the other Uluru ( Ayers rock ) from the air. Sunrise over the Far East was another sight to behold, it was huge.

I even witnessed a big strong man crumble half way up in a cable car to the Rock of Gibraltar. His legs gave way and he could hardly stand when we got to the top.

trisher I think I read they are Anglican nuns. Clodagh is a fairly common name in Ireland and I believe there was an Irish St Clodagh.

I can’t hear the name without thinking Clodagh Rogers. I think she sang in the Eurovision in the early 70’s.

Me too, even when they were going up that staircase.

I was wondering about St Clodagh.

I'm not a Catholic but I always thought nuns had to take a saint's name when they took their vows. Anyone explain about Clodagh? Or is this a misconception?

The final episode deviated a lot from the book, the original film was much truer to it.

Oh crikey. I’ve just seen that Sabu was in the 1947 film. I was madly in love with Sabu: The Jungle Book being my favourite film at that time. I must point out that he did seem quite grown up to me as I was still very young.

When I was little I used to have film annuals that were years out of date but I loved looking through them. I even managed to find my favourite one on eBay a few years ago. There was a picture of Black Narcissus in one of them but I’ve never seen the film. Rather surprised that in 1947 someone would make a film about repressed sexuality though. Was the leading man as gorgeous as the one in the beebs adaptation? As with The Night Manager I ended up watching the final bit through my fingers. I’m getting very wimpy in my old age.
