Southern Goth story with a huge cast and excellent soundtrack- It's based on the book and the author is the narrator- It's on Netflix-

Just looked up the book on Amazon.... not for me!
Perhaps the tv version is less horrific.

I watched this last night and thought despite the violence and gore which was hard to watch sometimes it was a good story which held my attention from beginning to end. It reminded me of the Fargo stories without the black humour. I always like films set in the period just after WW2 and as you said rosecarmel the sound track was very good.

It also held my attention start to finish but I did look away when I knew there would be a violent scene- I thought the acting by all was spot on- The scene in church, with the chicken livers, her humility was palpable-
