Did anyone watch this on BBC2 last night. I am not a person who thinks these things do not happen but I was shocked and saddened that we still have a society that allows this to happen. I wondered if anyone on gransnet had a disability and found this to be the norm. I hope not but would not be surprised if it was.

This sort of crime really brings out the worst in me. I didn't see the programme but if I ever saw anyone being cruel towards someone with a disability I feel I wouldn't be responsible for my actions, old as I am.
I can't watch such programmes as they get me so wound up that many can just stand by and watch it happening. Why ??

I don't have a disability, but the one on the receiving end of my brolly would have if I caught them being cruel.

Surely, cruelty to anyone is to be abhored. Not sure why just worked up because the recipient may have some sort of visible disability.

On the flip side, I can only say that I have always found people to extremely helpful when I am out and about in my scooter. They step of the pavement into roads to permit me to pass without coming too close.

Nasty people who are cruel to any other human being are the worst sort of person

It has got worse in my experience and this rhetoric surrounding benefits and 'free cars' and benefits cheats and Pip assessments hasn't helped. I worked with a vulnerable young man who was regularly targeted by people on nights out who would steal his money and/or beat him up. He was also targeted by women pretending to 'be his girlfriend' who he got into debt 'phoning' We all tried to help him but it's really awful to think this sort of thing happens.

i watched this programme last night and wished that I hadn't. That poor woman in Ireland who was hounded from her home by her neighbours, and as for the blind woman whose guide dog was kicked.......I have no words.
